With all the talk lately of the Tuggerah centre of excellence and the well documented problems we have with Bluetongue I wondered just what everyones long term dreams for our club would be?

We all have our dreams and management must have too.

So let's assume that long term we will have our own stadium at Tuggerah.Personally I think even if we win the world cup bid we won't get nor will we need a 40,000 seater at Tuggerah. In my opinion we will always be a smallish club and a stadium in the 15-20,000 capacity range is all we will ever really need.

This stadium is the home of FC Sion in Switzerland and has a capacity of 20,187.
I like it because....

1.The stands are steep and close to the action.
2.It's covered on four sides.
3.It has a small terracing behind each goal for active fans both home and away.
4.It is big enough to host our biggest crowds but would be atmospheric with a smallish crowd.
5.With four matching but seperate stands/terraces it could be built over time and used while it was being built.

On mainland europe there are many clubs with similar size crowds to our own playing in fantastic little stadiums made and designed for football. This site is a great one for browsing through them.

With a bit of foresight could the little boutique stadium at Tuggerah turn into something like this? :)

I'm not sure why you would want a 15,000 - 20,000 seat stadium at Tuggerah. Isn't that what we already have at BlueTongue.

The options I see are

1) Stay at BlueTongue with small boutique stadium at Tuggerah - maybe 5000. This option is probably most likely but I would like the standard of the surface increase markedly at BlueTongue.

2) 15,000 - 20,000 stadium at Tuggerah. Unlikely. Why? What advantage is there except for controlling who uses it.

3) 40,000 stadium. Why? To host WC games. Unlikely. We simply do not have the population to justify the ongoing need for that size.

A simpler and (hopefully doable) solution would be to move the pitch towards the bay at BT and put in a small standing area in front of the trees

I reckon you would get 10/15m easily and all it would mean is that there would be 4/5 tiers of seats in the stands that were now behind the line (rarely full so does it matter?)

That appears to be the Mariners management logic too, pjennings. The original plan for the Tuggerah site, included a 5000 seat boutique stadium.

The Bluetongue Stadium has a few more years left in her construction, but it will be needing renovation sometime thereafter.

The trend seems to be, for the Mariners matches in the A-League, with a slow start to the season crowd attendance wise, with a lot of the bumper crowds coming in around Christmas time, New Years.

Given that Singo is still pining for a NRL team up here, the logic behind a smallish stadium to start the season off, as the knuckle draggers finish theirs, would seem quite a fitting solution (if a CC NRL team eventually gets up here).

I'd be happy to see the Mariners own a 10 - 15K stadium outright, then move to Bluetongue for larger matches, crowd wise. But a boutique 5K stadium would be more realistic for the club's own expenditure budget.

Unlikely.....yes I agree it probably is but in 20 or 30 years time we could be playing a 30 odd game league season plus cup games etc. There will probably be a RL side up here with overlapping seasons and all the extra problems that will bring. We have the land at Tuggerah.I'm just putting it out there.

Quite apart from the fact I think Bluetongue is a crap stadium anyway.

Wash your mouth out! Post reported......... ;) ;D

(Besides  - it is going to be the largest football venue in the region for quite some time to come, so you might wanna get used to it....but no harm in saving land at Tuggerah for the day to come where the Mariners can afford to fund their own 20-30K stadium.)

No roof, no end, no atmosphere, shit pitch and a bastard to get out of.

BT's appeal for me is that it is the home of my club. Stadium design, options etc have been done to death here but BT is not a great (or even good) stadium for football.

22851 seats, 7000 standing places. Can add seats for internationals in place of the terracing. Expandable should we need to use it for Asian Cup matches in 2015 or World Cup matches in 2022.

I like it Dibo but imo it's for a bigger club than ours.

I'd prefer a smaller stadium that was going to be half to three quarters full for your run of the mill league game.

No way would we be getting a new ground unless it was a bigger ground. No point really.

It needs to be bigger...plan for the future people!! Don't do State and Federal Gocernment and plan for now, or 2 years ahead, plan for 15 years...thats how old the J-League is...look at where their crowds are at.

Football on the coast may need it's own stadium in 20 or 30 years time.Could be used for state league games etc as well.I just think that with the land available the so called boutique stadium could be built with a view to expanding it to suit our needs in the future.

Bluetongue could be left to the knuckledraggers.

Yes but how big do you really think CCM will be in 20 or 30 years ?

IMO we will always be a small club, quite possibly fighting relegation on a regular basis.

Apart from the odd game we won't ever have a need for a bigger stadium imo.

I never really took a great deal of notice about how far the field is from the bottom of bay 16. But I had a look the other night and the gap is way to big.

Currently we may not have the population. But the Central Coast is one of the fastest growing regions in the country who knows what it will be in 10 plus years. Also add the increased tourism numbers from an event like the world cup and filling the stadium is a realistic and achievable goal. Building the stadium probably would be cost effective with subsidies from local, state and federal government. I think we need to be more ambitious, go for 40k people.

Unless a stadium was funded in whole by the club or investors then there is no way it will be anything but Asian cup and World cup compliant.

Also a stadium such as Dibo has suggested would have an awesome atmosphere even if only 1/3 full.

But we end up with another stadium we have to share with the knuckledraggers.

Bigger stadium with the same problems.

So the only club in Australia with plans for their own academy to raise youngsters for their team and to farm out is going to always be a small club?

The only team with future plans which resemble that of bigger clubs in Europe will always be a small club?

I doubt that very much.

We will never be huge, but there is no reason other than our areas population that we would always be a small club. And that will grow consistently over the next 10 - 20 years.

So glad your not running our club, no foresight or dream in you my freind.
