It's up to you how you participate in the community!

Channels in limbo on footy sponsors
Abstracted from The Australian

The Australian Football League, Super 14 and National Rugby League competitions are yet to secure full sponsorship for their 2009 seasons. MCN CEO, Anthony Fitzgerald, said sponsors were reacting to the global financial crisis, with finance departments having expressed an unwillingness to fully commit. Seven Network director of sales, Kurt Burnette, said the delay also related to concerns about how and where advertisements would run in the network's sports schedule

one day corporations will realise... why spend $$$ on sponsoring a team whos coverage is confined mainly to NSW and QLD (i.e RL) or VIC/SA/WA (ALF) when you can sponsor an a-league team who has national and international appeal (especially those in the ACL)... maybe in a small way its starting to happen now (sony sponsoring the 'nux), plus our sponsorships at present would be considerably less

LOL @ NRL, build a revenue model on gambling revenue and TV money.

Then do nothing when your model breaks down.

Back to park football for you lot

What's the situation with our current major sponsorship deal? Is there anything to the fact that the new strip was released without a sponsor's name on it? Given the media exposure a new strip would attract, I'd be extremely pissed off if I was the major sponsor of the club and my name wasn't on the front of the shirt.

Are we getting a new sponsor for the ACL?

How long was the Hyundai sponsorship for and what's the general vibe around the traps about it?

Clubs in NSW have become, in my view, victims of their own greed. They're meant to be about providing services to the community, but over the years became increasingly pokies-centric. This has reduced the services clubs are able to provide and, among other things, also killed off the live music scene in this state.

Begins this season and goes for 3 if i remember correctly? Was worth significantly more than the original, though there was some distance between ffa and hyundai, not sure how close to each they closed

The Korean guy who runs Hyundai out here is football mad, like all good Koreans. They renewed the deal and football can benefit in so many ways from having a strong, lengthy partnership that SHOULD see us through to better financial times and also gives football the surety to invest and expand while others are weighing up the financial risks of the next season.

it's worth noting that while the article doesn't talk about football at all, this doesn't mean that football is avoiding the trouble, it's just that they've not mentioned anything.

While we have been fortunate to have sewn up Hyundai to a longer deal at the right time, it will be interesting how the A-League clubs manage these 'challenging' times ahead.

Each will have to fight for the sponsors against the other football codes, but now is the time to start selling the global exposure through the ACL & football's global ambassador type role with trade for their region etc.....These are things that other football codes cannot sell at all to prospective sponsors, and can be put to businesses as some sort of value added incentive if the club does well.

I can see gate takings down if they don't price next seasons' tickets right, I can see less merchandise being sold, and a repeat of the crowd stats for this year in 2009/2010.

Maybe having people like Fowler coming into the A-League may attract a few people through the gate where ever NQF play and likewise with Culina for GCU, and with the stage set for a good charge for qualifying for the World Cup, then Football may get some more media exposure than it has received this year. So it may not be as dire as one might expect?
