GOLD Coast United chairman Clive Palmer today confirmed six more players who will take their place on the United roster for next season.
With goalkeepers Jess Vanstrattan and Scott Higgins already signed and sealed, along with striker Shane Smeltz and defender Adam Griffiths, Professor Palmer added another six names to the list making a total of ten players confirmed as Gold Coast United squad members next term.
Defensive stocks have been boosted with the addition of reliable utility defender Daniel Piorkowski and former Adelaide United and Wellington Phoenix stopper, Kristian Rees. Both have secured two-year deals with the Miron Bleiberg-coached club.
Piorkowski, 24, switched to Newcastle Jets from Melbourne Victory on a short-term deal earlier this year and was quickly snapped up by Head Coach Miron Bleiberg. 28-year-old centre-back Rees has been plying his trade for Adelaide City since leaving Phoenix and has welcomed his return to the Hyundai A-League.
Current Central Coast Mariners schemer Matt Osman, 25, has penned a two-year contract and will be joined by former FC Omniworld (Netherlands) and New Zealand Knights midfielder Zenon Caravella on a two year deal.
Caravella, the 25 year old nephew of Queensland Roar coach Frank Farina, is well known to Bleiberg after travelling with the Roar squad on a post-season tour to Korea in 2006.
Also signed on is Steve Fitzsimmons, 32, another former New Zealand Knights midfielder who has been drafted in on a one-year deal to add depth to the squad.
Midfield workhorse and former Young Socceroo Steve Pantelidis is set to join the club from Melbourne Victory after agreeing terms on a two-year contract. Despite his relatively young age of 25, Pantelidis has registered over 50 Hyundai A-League games for Victory and brings vital experience and versatility to the United ranks.
These players will provide added strength and depth to our squad and we look forward to welcoming them to our club next season, Professor Palmer said.
The aim is for their time at Gold Coast United to long, successful and enjoyable.
"With the guidance of our coaches, Miron Bleiberg and Paul Okon, these players will contribute enormously to the exciting brand of football we intend to play.
Professor Palmer added that more players will be confirmed in the coming weeks as the Gold Coasts roster begins to take shape.
