ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Regarding some comments on these forums about the NRL, I'd be inerested to get a more widespread opinions on how you see it. Especially considering the A-league season is now over and the NRL season is only a couple of weeks from the start.

My dad brought me up a keen Balmain Supporter....needless to say I was pretty Devvo when they merged...

So yeah. Until they bring back old school NRL with the awesome jerseys, fights and blood and hilarious hair do's, I don't really watch it.

Stupid game played in 2 UK counties, 2 states here (and not even all of the state either), parts of NZ and thats about it.

Lays claim to being a major sport but is propped up globally by Uncle Rupert and Ch9 to fill screen time.

If they knew their place and stuck to it I could tolerate them

I follow the dragons, but not with as much passion as the Mariners.  I don't go to many games - there's just no atmosphere compared to HAL.

I was a North Sydney fan; they merged us with our hated rivals. hated the beagles, but these days im rather indifferent the the game. and compared to football, RL does have really shit atmosphere and these days I could never get behind a team in it

I used to support the NRL, only get into the tipping comp at work. I couldn't be bothered watching the games, whereas I watch every game of the A League. I don't go to any of the games at BT anymore unless my kids beg me to, and that is very rare these days. The atmosphere at a football match leaves the NRL for dead....

NR-what??

Irrelevant "sport" that thinks it's bigger than it really is.  Wish it would die in the arse tomorrow.

What's the point in hating any sport, really?

If people want to support NRL, AFL, or bloody croquet, good on them.  At least it gets some people off their arse and doing something and socialising.

The continued presence of NRL doesn't hurt us, so I don't see what the point in wishing death upon it.

i reckon if the NRL does set up a team here, the FFA might work harder to accomodate us in order to compete, but then again that would be a logical decision and those come scarcely out of the FFA

I wouldn't be so sure about that champ...... in fact, they're our biggest competitor in NSW, which at the moment is our biggest market.  I think Greenpole said it best somewhere else of the forum - first rule of business is to eliminate the competition.  Now I know we'll never get rid of that piece of crap "sport" NRL, but we can certainly minimise the impact they have on our game.

Imagine football having the media coverage that NRL gets??  The way it should be to be honest.  NRL is Channel 9's plaything and the sooner it becomes even more irrelevant than it already is the better.  Football is the future as far as I'm concerned.

Growing up like probably most on here in league culture, I've certainly seen some lows and the actual game never captured my heart in the way a lot of the other sports i played did. BUT I have some very good friends, who are the best of people and also love league, so I try not to judge, though they do have no qualms in telling me that they hate "soccer" now I think of it :)

These days for me though if I'm to be truly honest with myself it's still more of a cringe at the culture that seemed to embrace league and subsequently league appeared to embrace back in turn. The bully's at school and form the surrounding areas were nearly always league boys and they were the most violently racist. I remained pretty much unscathed, but I saw a lot of people discriminated and hurt by people who used league as their identities - this is not leagues fault - but it's what they did and it's been hard to forget that, so I was glad for the good people i know who've helped me too realise that like most things, it's got everything to do with "People" how they are raised and their values - though this is actually still where I fear league will still struggle. But I also have hope in this new age of professionalism and greater self examination and consequence for all codes that league will/is evolving too. Everything deserves a right to evolve, and I wouldn't want or argue or try and deny that right irrespective of my personal taste and even in the face of my own personal experiences.

Great...!  Another opportunity to express how much I loathe this practise  - I won't call it sport.

It's a world sporting-code minnow that thinks it's the most important

Many of its followers have, for years, belittled football - let me tell them that the tables are now turned in Australia

Agree with soccersensei about the culture that surrounds it

However, it is a useful way of demarcating 'them' from 'us', and I would hate for the worst of 'them' to become integrated with the worst of 'us'

NRL to me is the most confusing game in the world
i do not understand how people can get so excited over it and  get bored over soccer

I used to go to 2-3 matches a season (a proud doggies supporter!)...but I have not been to one match since the start of the A-league!

Rugby league is full of egocentric thugs, in both the playing ranks and management. This will ultimately be the demise of the game.

As mentioned once before in a previous Thread- I am Bi. Absolutely love both codes. I follow Wests Tigers from the Balmain side of the family and am a member who goes to all games. Went to my first game at the age of 5 with my Dad and went on the Kangaroo Supporters Tour of England in 1986.

Equally, I went to the FA Cup Final between Man United (huge fan) and Everton the previous year. I truely feel there is room for both codes in my life.  :eek:verhead: :eek:verhead:

I feel the same way.  Especially as I have been a Newcastle Knights supporter.  But my hatred of Newcastle is now growing, growing, ah now fading, no - again growing, growing, growing...  Um, go Tigers!
