Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Someone remind me why we got rid of Matt Hatch.
We offered him a 1 year deal but he was desperate for 2 years, as he’d been going from year to year since he was 15/16 and wanted a bit of security. Perth offered him 2 years and he took it, opportunity for a fresh start and to get out of his bubble. Sadly wasn’t training well over there and didn’t get any opportunities, cut loose after 1 season. At least they paid out the final year of his contract.

But struggled with everything after that 🤷🏻‍♂️
4 goals in 391 minutes in the league after that first one - a goal every 97.75 minutes. A decent return.

By no means anywhere near the most technically proficient player but was an absolute pace merchant, a pain in the arse against tiring defenders, with some sort of end product.

With the amount of chances Nathan Paull, Noah Smith and even Storm Roux have had you would have thought he would get another but not to be I guess.

I think the telling stat there is that he was only good enough for 391 minutes.

The problem with being a pace merchant without any technical proficiency is that once the pace goes then what is left?

Was an exciting pain the arse who created havoc. Could use some of that this year

However he lacks step overs.

Was also pretty ineffective today against the young lads once he got near the box.

Shame to see locals not make it but just wasn’t good enough

The telling stat is that he was “only good enough” for 391 minutes but was averaging a goal every 90-odd during that time? Ok 🧐
Had he not gone to perth, I’d be willing to wager he’d still be in aliga somewhere. Moot point now though.

3-4 years down the track and he hasn’t slowed up so not sure the second point has any relevance right at this moment. Would have been a decent career a-league player; will do well in the national second tier when it finally gets off the ground (it’s coming, football Australia promised).

2 of those came in big wins against an average Wellington in 90+ minutes. It's not like he was changing games.

Maybe. Maybe not. There aren't many players with just pace these days. Most rapid guys who stay around have better skills like a Jed drew type.

Maybe not impacting right now. He's still only 24. Give it another couple and he will lose that bit that makes him genuinely rapid compared to just a bit quick. Usually pace is the first thing to go and he will slow but isn't good enough to play A-league as an average paced player.

I agree he will be ok in the second tier/NPL. He has found his level. I'm not holding my breath on anything more than the current end of season cup competition- too many years waiting. They have been floating the idea since the NasL days.

Only one of them was against Wellington. But, doesn’t matter where or when you score them. It’s not like he was stat-padding by scoring goals against aleague oppo. Wouldn’t mind a player now that could score against an average Wellington.

I never rated Jed Drew that highly, technically. Marginally higher than Hatch, yes, but no higher than a McCarthy et al. James Bayliss was/is 20x the technician that Drew is, still couldn’t get an aleague gig (another story in there that we can leave for some other time).

Hence me saying “right at this moment”. I’m pretty well aware of how age catches up, but thanks. You’re right, he is still only 24, so has another 5+ years (maybe more, maybe less) before that starts to wane.

But football Australia promised
