ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

With all due respect boys may as well have a poll on should we sign Steven Gerrard! Of course everybody is going to say yes but never gunna happen same as this little episode.
I think with money not being a major factor with him and Central Coast being the closest team (with a chance of signing him) to his family. I think there is a decent chance. Him being in a corporate box to watch the last game shows how interested he is. Seems a bit silly to be saying we have no hope of signing him.

+1

Infact i would go as far as saying we would be favourites (from Aus) to sign him given his desire to be close to family and the fact that we are the only team on the eastern seaboard with many players to add to their roster before V5, plus the room we have in our cap and that we dont have a marquee.

Now if only we had some money.

Yeah, he won't choose Gold Coast since they are too far away from his family. Hopefully Sydney don't want him because if they do, he'll most likely go to them.

Dear Santa.

For christmas, I would like a new Mile as our marquee and if its not to much, a Bozza to come in under the salary cap.

I think we will sign him.

The club have in the past brought in some top players...Viddy and Aloisi.  When we have spent the money in the past we have reaped the rewards.
This year we tried to do it on the cheap and ended up the laughing stock of Australian Football.
The board are not stupid and realise that they need to invest of we will be wooden spooners with very nervous sponsors and crowds of 6-7 K.
Personally i'd pick Central Coast over Gold Coast.  They cannot fit him in under the salary cap.  Here he will be the cornerstone of the team.

Arguements along the lines of CC being closer to his family than GC are somewhat dubious IMO. We dont exactly know what he wants as far as family contact is concerned. Maybe just being in the same time zone is good enough, it certainly would make phoning the folks a lot easier than doing it from Europe. Also, GC is only a hour's plane fight away and if Mile has been a good boy with his cash (as one assumes he has becasue he's taking a pay cut by coming home) then it's no drama to jump on a plane when your younger brother's 18th is on... Get my drift?

Sorry to be a wet blanket but I'm just sick and tired of having my hopes raised then dashed. Best to be pesimistic, then any news that isn't bad actually looks like good news.

Having said all of that, I personally think it would be a better career move to come to CCM. If he can be seen to turn our dramtic slide around then surely that would be a big tick in his favour when it comes to a Socceroo's call up.

Apparently he was at the match on Tuesday. Anyone see him there?

From 442 website:

Sterj Watches 'Terrible' Tianjin

LAWRIE McKinna accused rivals Tianjin Teda of causing a 'farce'and blasted the Chinese tactics in a bitter aftermath to the dead rubber.
Socceroo Mile Sterjovski watch the pantomime from the stands and McKinna admitted he was keen to sign the out of contract star to boos the Mariners next season.

But he let fly at Tianjin after the visitors took play-acting to a new level by feigning injury and rolling around the Bluetongue Stadium turf in mock agony.

The small crowd reacted angrily to the Tianjin's tactics, booing the team from the ground.

"It's a farce. They made a mockery of it. They killed the last 10-15 minutes of the game," McKinna said. "If that's Asian football, that's terrible. It's terrible for the fans. It's terrible for anyone who watched it."

Tianjin Teda coach Zuo Shusheng denied his players were guilty of playacting as the game went into five minutes of added time.

"We never plan these kinds of things. We were all the time promoting fair play and the positive way of playing football," he insisted.

But McKinna was unconvinced, declaring: "They were winning the game and I don't think there's any need to do that.

"That kind of stuff just brings the game down, and especially because the Australian public is not used to that kind of stuff."

The loss signalled the end of a dismal ACL campaign for the Mariners, but McKinna believes it can be the beginning of a fresh start at the club.

The Mariners have parted company with Andre Gumprecht, Paul O'Grady, Greg Owens and Nick Rizzo and are chasing several new players.

They are hoping to add Sterjovski to their roster after he watched last night's game at Bluetongue but may have been unimpressed by what he saw.

"There's interest but there are another two or three Asian clubs and A-League clubs and still some interest in Europe for him," McKinna admitted

"So there's still a long way to go but that type of player would be a huge asset to the club. On and off the field he's a true professional."

The Mariners have also been linked with Sheffield United's 22 year old midfielder Nicky Travis.

I would sign him but not as a marque due to the fact other clubs seem to be trying to fit him in the cap so thats what we should do. Even though he is a current national player he is not going to bring in supporters in the 1000's to the game. Would love to see him here with a youth marquee and Marquee player signed to form a great squad.

Central Coast >>>>>>>>> Gold Coast
very few people outside the central coast will endorse that (perhaps only ex-coasties)

In your opinion. In my opinion, you're wrong.
good post :p
honestly dont be so naive
its one thing to say
I love the Central Coast- and wouldn't leave it for anywhere in Australia (fair enough)
but to think the rest of Australia has that opinion (which is what i was debating)- lol

EDIT: My apoligies I have realised an error in my logic
That would be to assume all of Australia know about the Central Coast
When i was in Melbourne- noone knew Central Coast...
