LOL! +1.

He's had plenty of opportunities to prove us all wrong but hasn't.

McGlinchey, on the other hand, has had two A-League games for the Mariners and already people are noticing him. Folks I was with last night were really noticing the EFFORT he was putting in, in the centre of the park, even against much bigger opponents he still went in for the header etc.

+2! Useless sack of shit. i spoke to him once personally, he has a bad attitude to football. I asked him will he be fit for the season and he said to Greg Owens "I dont realy care, im probably the highest paid person in Australia who does nothing" ! then both of the useless bastards started laughing. I had felt i was robbed of following a hard-working, triumphant side tbut instead i met to lazy uncommitted buggers!

Back to the main topic of this thread. McGlinchey was terrific last night! I am glad to have him on board at the Mariners. He's passionate, gets involved all the time and never stops running.

Agree he is quality (and his background shows it) he should get better as well..... he's not had much of a pre season...

So long as he remains injury free and doesn't pick up too many knocks along the way, he'll end up in the National Sheepshagging team for sure. Herbert would be insane not to select him. And if NZ manage to get through to the WC2010, McGlinchey might end up being a hero across the ditch.

With Smeltz on fire for the GC, & McGinchey sitting just behind him in attack would be good enough against the 5th placed Asian team for the WC spot playoff.

Quality. Probably the best reader of the game in our entire squad form what I've seen so far. It's high pedigree stuff. Coupled with his great attitude and work rate and you can see how his youth had such incredible potential... if he was a bit bigger and faster then he would never have ended up anywhere near us... So very glad he has ;D

Couldn't agree more he looks a very exciting prospect indeed. Not afraid to have dig outside the box which I always like to see. The old addage "If you don't shoot you can't score" certainly relevant for his goal against MV. His size is deceiving to I think, he gets in and has a go which is great. The more he settles in the more he is going to shine for sure.

Wee Mac gets the call up to the NZ sqaud:

http://www.theworldgame.com.au/adelaide-united/mcglinchey-gets-all-whites-call-225697

Central Coast Mariners midfielder Michael McGlinchey has been named in New Zealand's 18-man squad for a friendly against Jordan in Amman on Wednesday, 9 September - subject to FIFA approval.

Wellington-born McGlinchey has been called up by All Whites coach Ricki Herbert after starting the season well with the Mariners, with the 22-year-old contemplating a journey from Scottish Premier League giants Celtic discard to a potential World Cup finals appearance in the space of a year.

"It's a great honour," McGlinchey said.

"Obviously I grew up in Scotland and represented at Under 20's level, but I was born in New Zealand and I just hope I can get on the park and do a good job for Ricki.

"I can't thank Lawrie (Mariners football manager McKinna) enough. He's been great and gave me a chance to come over here and prove what I could do. I know I'm good enough, and I'm just looking forward to repaying the faith hes shown in me by representing the Mariners well when I play for New Zealand."

McGlinchey was born in New Zealand while his father Norman was playing for Lower Hutt, but moved back to Scotland when he was a baby.

"If I can get on and do well in Jordan hopefully Ricki will look at me for the (World Cup) playoffs (against either Bahrain or Saudi Arabia), and who knows after that. As a wee lad you grow up watching the World Cup and it's what every footballer wants to be a part of.

"If New Zealand can qualify over the two legs and I could get on the plane to South Africa then it would be a dream come true. But I can't get ahead of myself, hopefully get on and do well in Jordan, and continue doing well for the Mariners."

McKinna, who signed McGlinchey to a two-year deal, said he was delighted for the former Celtic man.

"He's been fantastic from the very first day he joined us, he fits in to the squad well on and off the park, and it's a good reward for him," McKinna said.

We play Perth in Canberra on the Friday night (4 September), and hell be available to fly out after that, but it'll be a great experience for the lad and if he does well who knows, he could be off to the World Cup next year.

He's not afraid to take a defender on either which is something you don't see at this level too often these days.

There's a real positive look about him when he recieves the ball.

Let's hope LM doesn't knock that out of him.*goes into hiding*

I think the Wee Man just enjoys being out on the field, doing what he does. Works for me.

Great news for the guy being selected in the squad for NZ. Very happy for him, he's worked hard getting settled into his new club and living in Australia. Hope he gets a run and does well.
