ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

McKinna may be off to Chengdu Blades as Coach

I don't think its for $ saving reasons TBPH.

The guy was ultra successful at a club starting out. He has a brilliant record with us if you take away his last year. Why not the fact thats he's a good coach being the reason he is getting a look in?

Fair play, and I reckon if he had a stable lineup on the park every week he would have done even better. It seemed like there was hardly a week where someone from the previous week was out due to injury, and the very few times we could get the same people out on the park for a few weeks in a row we did well!

Anyway. I'd hate to lose Lawrie but will be watching if he gets another coaching gig somewhere :)

If he's the coach, Chengdu will be my Chinese team of choice. I may even go out and get a Blades shirt with his name on it!

Maybe it's just to get tips on the coaching structure and inner workings on the club to bring back and use here?

Lawrie admitted as much to TWG that he was going over about a job.

McKinna told The World Game that while nothing had yet been signed he was keen to return to coaching. “I didn’t miss it first but I’ve freshened up now and I have itchy feet again to get involved more with the players,” he said.

“I’m going up to China to spend five days or so with the Mariners' blessing and to see what happens.

"It would be something significant to become the first Australian coach to coach in the Chinese Super League.

"The club is very ambitious but after six great years with the Mariners it will need to be something special to tempt me away.”

Would be a shame to lose him but I'd support Lawrie where ever he went. I'm just glad it's not another A-league team so we don't have to question our loyalty.

I suspect this may become a permanent move for a couple of reasons. Lawrie is:

1. extremely successful in coaching,
2. holds the appropriate coaching licences,
3. knows what it takes to set up a successful club
4. It holds a challenge for him.
5. It reduces the Mariners overheads
6. The cash on offer is too good to refuse.

It would be a huge loss of Lawrie moved on however one person does not make a club. Sorely missed yes but it is also an opportunity to move on. Having said that he would/is still part of the Blades network of clubs for whatever that means.

Also notice that Kwas will be going over for a few months. I wonder how many other players will be heading elsewhere for the off season. One good thing is that it does reduce our costs as the club does not have to pay thier wages.

Lawrie is a coach at heart not an administrator; if he is offered a coaching position which truly interests him then good luck to him. He'll always be a Mariner legend. But, if he does go, the club will lose a valuable link to NSW Premier League football from which we pick up talented young players. Let's not forget that it was on Lawrie's watch that we signed Amini, Bernie and Ryan.

Would love to have a friendly with Chengdu Blades in the off-season. Would be great preparation for the ACL, plus it'd be heaps funny having Arnie v Lawrie as coaches and also playng against Kwas.

As partner clubs it shouldn't be too hard to organise!
