Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Matty Simon Overseas?

I just walked in on the end of Fox Sports FC and they were discussing Matt Simon going overseas. They didn't mention the club he was going to. Just that he was talking about leaving after the ACL.

Anyone else heard about any of this?

It was just reported on Fox Sports FC that the Mariners had received two requests for Matt Simon.
1 club was european, the other asian.
The european request had been declined by the Mariners.
The european club had not been named, unsure about the name of the asian club.
Matt Simon has advised that he will be making a decision AFTER the Champions League.

Interesting !!

Swindon were reported to have a scout looking at him at our last home game. No idea if thats true or related this though.

A transfer window move to Europe would me most logical if he goes that way IMHO

i hope he doesn't leave cause then we won't be able to see him play for us but it would be good for him if he makes a move to a good european club where he will get game time and increase his chances of a socceroo start

Lets assume for a moment that you are not some wanker troll.

He stepped up to the CCL, took a while to settle and made his mark. Went up to CCM and again took a while to adjust. Then chipped in with plenty of goals.

So Lawrie, Pim and unknown overseas clubs rate him but you dont. Says more about you than them doesnt it.

+1

Maybe a bit of jealousy in the air here.

And there you have it.

The guy was playing park football a few years back against you and others who would probably love to be in his position now.

The guy gave up his day job to follow his dream and now he's been capped for Australia.

Obviously if the overseas players were available he wouldn't have been picked but they weren't and he earned his cap through sheer hard work.

There are plenty of prima donnas in this game with more talent than Matt Simon who would do well to study his work ethic.

Well, if he got the header on target from close range, that would've changed everything. For crying out loud, he scored 11 goals last season and was pipped to the golden boot award by one goal as Shane Smeltz had 12. It should be pointed out that out of the 12 goals Shane Smeltz scored, 5 of them were penalties, where Simon's goals were ALL scored from open play. That's the good thing about having an opinion, you can be wrong if you want to be.

just annoying, this time last eason(V3) I thought Matty wasnt up to it, happy to see him excelling beyond many peoples expectations and getting very warranted rewards. Just dont see a need for petty jealousy , hes a local boy that has done extremey well.
