Who won the curtain raisor  wyoming or Budg

1-1, budge all over wyoming

song for the jets and he was by far the best player on the park

we were lacklustre and slow, and so desperately need creativity

What was the starting XI?

redders
porter - wilko - mosseley? - heff
hutch
ahmad - browny - d'apuzzo
sash - dylan

How did Heff go?

some excellent runs but pulled out of every tackle (excusable) and came off at half time

i'm thinking it will take a good half a season before he starts firing

redders was excellent in goals - commanding and composed

im really not positive goin into this season .

we certainly need more pace and creativity which is why kwassy leaving is a blow - he had both and could unlock a defencce with his runs

hopefully caceras will provide some of this but cannot see ahmad doing the same

I'm not that worried by the result tbh. When you compare the team that ran out for todays game, to the potential line-up for Round 1, it would be vastly different IMO. Adding in Jedi, Osman, Boogs, New GK, maybe a new attacking Midfielder, Simon, Mrdja, Caceres and Owens when gets back later in the season, we will be a much better team.

He got clipped by Song I think on the ankle and was limping thereafter. Went for a get square with Song didnt help either and didnt come back after half time. He had a good chance to score in the first half. Otherwise he is getting back to it slowly but I think the demons are still there and he will have to overcome them before he will get back to V1 form

so you're expecting mckinna to play with 3 forwards: simon, macca and mjdra

. the thing concerning me is that apparently we have a few spots to fill in the roster now. we are normally set well before pre-season games

. ok so there have been a few guys missing (some injured, some on rep duty) but all these trials have helped only a couple of guys really and can't have done much for establishing combinations

. i mean i think browny has played in every (i think) match ... and he has retired. it also seems that today he started in the most critical position for dictating our play

. yes they are trials and everything but there would be too many first 11 players that haven't really played together for my liking

EDIT: . and apologies but work commitments kept me from the game today, so my comments are based on info from the forum

No, but they're all players that would be in contention for a spot come August 15

Firstly, well done to Budgie for the organisation etc. Great little ground, nice little beer truck and a great effort all round.

Showed Pluim up for the shit hole that it is.

As for the game, standard trial really settled by Song (best player out there) putting away after a defensive errror.

Elrich looks totally unfit and we effectively played with 10 men. As he is so unfit and possibly overweight, he has no pace and I think we may have made a massive error here. Hope I am proved wrong but his previous history says not.

Shit game really like most trials

i reckon elrich did alright, he put in some good crosses didn't chase back at times though, i thought the lazy 1 was sasho. the surface at budge when wet it is very slippery

We did have enough possession in their half but failed to get the upper hand in the final third. Heff, McCallister and Hutch were playing well with Heff makings some good runs down the wing showing reasonable pace. Dapuzzo struggled and seemed more of a liability for mine; handed over possession, didn't defend well and gave away at least one foul.

Score was 1-0 to the jets. :(

Some joker on the Newcastle forum reckons 'Considering the Mariners were at full strength, besides that point blank shot into Kennedy from a cross, they were actually quite crap being up against a team of trialist's and young guys'.

As somebody who wasn't at the match today, please let me know if these comments bear any resemblance to reality. Was Newcastle really a team of triallists (hey, Mariners fans can spell!) and young guys? I read that Song and A. Griffiths played - any other notables for Newcastle?

And it was our full strength team out there today? I think not!

No, our team was not full strength. There were a bunch of triallists on our team. In the second half we had a number 9, 10, 12, 15, 16, 17 and maybe some others that I couldn't pick.

Mariners were perhaps unlucky to go into the break 1 down but second half we were rubbish!

We were no where near full strength but the team we had on the park should have done better!  Sash was poo, we looked ok down the left for the first 30 mins, Elrich was lazy but had 1 or 2 encouraging touches, we miss a creative midfielder, without Mile we lose so much, and tbh it was a f**king boring game like most trials are!
