Mariners vs. Adelaide live updates

Hi guys,

Just letting you know, I will be attempting a live update of tomorrow's trial against Adelaide at Hindmarsh Stadium.

Kick-off is at 2:30pm ADST.

The last time I tried this the battery on my laptop ran out in the 86th minute when we played North Queensland in Rockhampton, but this time I'll be in a media box, not on a grassy patch next to the bench!

Bear with me, but hopefully it'll all go smoothly!

I'll post team news on the website at about 2pm, and refresh from there. www.ccmariners.com.au

Cheers, Glen

Anybody know who will take the field? Given the comings and goings of late.

should find out at 2, but highly doubt that the 3 signings will play, also i saw somewhere that we were taking about 6 youth players over

possibly, but not unless bojic was playing RB, therefore warren could be a LB

But you would expect bojic to be playing at left back, he played there most of the time in his first season and i wouldnt think it would be all that logical to be trialing a left back after just signing rose and we have people like pedj and porter who could back up at that position. So you would assume he would be at right back

Warren and Sainsbury are both AIS. Warren is left footed, Sainsbury a tall central defender. So mariners have already offered a first grade contract to the AIS attacking weapon and are now offering first grade trials to two of their key defenders. Notably, mariners are shopping for next years talent in the yoof team that came dead last. (By the way, the attacking weapon scored a single goal this NYL season.)

In the meantime Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sydney are shopping in our NYL (who came first). We will lose a key defender  to GCU if either the AIS fullbacks are signed, and we will probably now lose two of our young attackers to Roar and Sydney, both having been snubbed yesterday for this Adelaide trip. All Roar and Sydney needed to offer was NYL but with training with first grade.

It just goes to show that Mariners treat NYL as a reserve grade for their first team players, whereas other clubs treat it as a nurturing environment for future first graders.  At this stage, to my knowledge, not one of the winning mariners yoof field players has been offered a first grade contract. Though they do seem to love Bernie so hopefully there will be one success come from this season.

Sorry for the rave I feel better now!

The AIS youth team came last because their average age was around 16-17, compared to the rest of the league at 19-20. It's a great idea to tap into the young AIS talent as they still have years of NYL and development ahead of them. A 20 year old is getting too old for NYL and hence must be signed into the first team to stay with a club, something that they may not quite ready or good enough for.

Melbourne Heart have signed two AIS players, so someone else rates what they produce. Current Mariners youth players who are good enough to play A-league have travelled to Adelaide to show Arnie what they can do. Notably Panni, Ryan, Smith and Bernie.

Many on here often say, if you can get 1 or 2 players from your youth team to step up per year, you are doing well.

Warren played LB for us as a ring-in in last year's NYL series. He looked OK, nothing special, tried to attack from LB a fair bit. HE was quite young though, and our team was old, so understandable he didn't stand out.

Of the AIS games I saw this year, they got dominated due to age and size in a big way. Some decent talents. but the difference between 16 and 19 is huge and it often showed.

I suppose this means they are trying to buy Mrdja, Huke, Elrich, McAllister (well, he is apparently interesting GCU) et al who were all a part of the success of our 'Youth'.

As for AIS finishing last, this will be because they are generally much younger than the other squads and can never have access to over age A League players.
Mustafa Amini AFAIK was never supposed to be a goalscorer, more a creative midfielder?
Although I enjoyed the Youth game on the weekend, the thought of most of those playing in our first team wasn't a thought to provide much comfort.

And has Nikas got a contract? Thought he was a replacement for Dappuzzo til the end of the season?
