Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

Shit game by the Mariners, lucky to take a point

Kwasnik MOM, Ibini great off the bench, Rogic good in patches. Sutton went MIA. Pelle was useless. McGlinchey good on the counter, Rose not his best game but crossing was good at the end. Bojic off colour. Wilko and Dutchy had their worst games in a long time. Griffiths average.

Would hate to see what Brisbane would've done to us playing like that.... utter BS!!

Lucky to take the draw, that's for sure!!

tell me if I'm wrong as I couldn't see clearly via the stream, but it appeared Rojic is a bit lazy in chasing back when a player goes around him... was definitely no urgency there!!

Yes I rate him very highly. Rees, Twaite and Halloran are no mugs either.

You can see a half decent player hidden inside Pelle but I doubt he will make the grade for us. To be honest I think Porter is a better attacking mid but not sure if he can play on the left.

Haven't watched first 34 mins so I,ll hold fire until I do.

In the 60 mins I saw.

- best defensive pairing in the Hal became the worst.
-Griffiths and Pelle were rank
-Rojic still has a long way to go
- only Kwassie and WeeMac deserve any plaudits
-Bernie looked good
- is it impossible to coach our players how to cross a ball?
-Pasfield is superb in the air and terrible down low
- no grunt from midfield...can't wait for Bozanic to liven things up again
- the new GCU coach looks like a winner
- Palmer is a nutter

Overall we were completely shite and the ONLY positive was a bit of fight to get us back in the game. So was last week a mirage?

Couldn't match their enthusiasm in the first half. Once they tired after 60 mins we looked fine.

Agree that Wilko, Dutchy and Griff were awful, constantly coughing up the ball. Probably Griff's worst game in a Mariners shirt. If we were smart about it, we would have just passed around them and let them chase our shadows. Instead we were too slow on the ball and panicked once they shut us down.

Totally wrong type of game for Sutton, he couldn't keep up with the pace. He will be much better suited in the slower games.

Wombat - how many times do you think Weemac lost the ball in the first half? 5? 10?

No real offence to Pasfield - but we would not play like that, or at least do not play like that for long periods of play, with Ryan at the back. Ryan's distribution, not his shot stopping, is what sets him apart and what will see him bypass a lot of older keepers to challenge for Schwarzer's position.

We played badly, but GCU made us play badly. Their speed hurt us and made our usual solid defence look decidely shaky. If Ryan had been there tonight the Gold Coast simply wouldn't have been able to harass our defence the way they did and they would have been on the back foot more often simply because Ryan would have distributed the ball better and transitioned us more quickly into attack.

100% agree. Kwasaldinho currently looks super sharp. Really missed Hutcho tonight.

Poor organisation by our back 4 hurts too. When the keeper receives/recovers the ball, the CBs should split, the DM should come to the ball and the FBs should push on alongside the LM and RM.

When our CBs pull narrow, it takes us from 3 clear outlets to one clear outlet, so the keeper plays long at the first hint of pressure.

Several times tonight our CBs stayed narrow, taking the DM out of the game and forcing the FBs to choose either to go to their proper position in a fast moving transition that creates an attacking threat or head toward the corner flags and sacrifice the bounce from the backline. How much of this is about the back 4 trusting the keepers I'm not sure, but it should be a very basic part of our play, and it's clearly not. Maybe Matt Ryan deals better with it, not sure, but it makes the keeper look bad when it's the back 4 cocking up.

Wow. Rostyn was surprisingly atrocious tonight. Ref was too in the first half. As were we.
However to be fair. GCU were red hot tonight. With the exception of possibly Roar, with a performance like that they would have trounced every other team in the comp.

Kwas, Berni and Rogic were our three best, and our second half was much improved from all.
