ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

He has the skills but not the focus or concentration. Drifts in and out of games mentally and, I suspect, in his training regime

Next season I'd like to see a SFC or MC approach to recruitment -
1) Spend the majority of our coin on the first 11 and then only squad fillers/youth.
2) Focus heavily on strength and conditioning and aim for maximum fitness and minimal injury time.

Our squaddies or other youth players - being fit, especially - can step up to fill in gaps for when first 11 players need time out for cards, injuries, representative games etc. Further, slotting one or a couple of squaddies into a fit and functioning quality first 11 would be functional and lift their games/skill.

We just don't have the resources to have '2 players competitive for every position'. In order to achieve that we simply lower the quality of each pair-per-position so that we can afford it.

Yeah I’ve long thought this also.

I’d supplement a quality starting 11, with one extra quality defender, 1 defensive mid, 1 attacking mid and 1 forward for cover. The other 8 players all youth.

That’s pretty much the way to do it in the A-league I reckon as well.
Unfortunately we already have Oar, Mcglinchy, Simon, Melling on the books for next year which to be competitive and tactically sound in the second half are a waste of space and money.
Simon could be used as the bench impact player and maybe Melling would be ok to bring off bench to fire up team and get through second half.

I think Oar will come good.

Its end of the season so Charlesworth can save wages and only sign people really late to save money
That means they miss preseason but ho hum

This has to stop. But now harder than ever with agents and players surely hedging their bets rather than committing early to the Mariners train.

Is that a legit reason why we never have a proper preseason!? Our owner signs players as late as possible so he doesn't have to start paying them til the latest possible moment?

I hope that's just a theory, f**k...

Yes BG, It would be a very interesting analysis. The projected figure of having a hungry and successful side building anticipation of finals Football and a glimpse at Glory......maybe a crowd average of 9 to 10k. Versus the reality of 5-6k crowds in a team on the bottom of the ladder.
