With the Under 20's qualifying for the World Cup in September I wonder if Haine, Miguel and DPC will be a chance of selection. All now starting in ALeague which is better than many in the current squad.
Anyone know why none were selected in this squad?
Haine would have also been eligible for the U17's who just won a tournament OS.
Irakundra would also be eligible for the World Cup.

Miguel hadn't played all season until the Perth game which was only a few days before the tournament kicked off.

Eames wasn't a starter at a league level and wouldn't have been on the radar when it was picked.. Not sure about DPC but he isn't keeping hall out of the team at any rate.

Squad wasn't picked until late January. Agree Miguel's injury would have ruled him out. He had been in an earlier squad for first round of qualifications. Think it was where he picked up his injury.
Eames had been on the bench since the start of the season and had a number of appearances both in the Aleague and the AFC games prior to squad selection. May have been considered too young at 16.(Happy Birthday Haine, turns 17 today.) Hall is the first choice keeper and playing well, helping team into the final but has been on the bench for Brighton academy all season. Only two appearances in PL2.
The other two keepers selected are 2nd and third choice keepers at Macarthur and Sydney FC respectively. DPC has been our first choice keeper just about all season.
Anyway hope all have a string end to the season and are considered for the World Cup.

He's had 7 a league starts and 2 ACL starts. And most of them have come in the last month - after the time the squad was picked.

He is head and shoulders better than DPC.

Only because we went with 3 inexperienced keepers. He doesn't get a look in as first choice at any other club. Being starting keeper for the 3rd worst team in the league isn't exactly a super advert for national selection.

This is the most successful the team has been in a long and the first in a long time without Mariners players.

Is Jacko a good coach but just not suited to the A League?

He clearly has structures which are built on a solid defense and clinical finishing while playing wide almost exclusively.

Even last year for the best team in the league we were on our heals alot and did a lot of defending (not all bad) but we hadly had a lot of shots on goal.

We needed Torres and Tulio before that to score the goals. The strikers have never been important in his teams.

He also by passes the mids to go wide. They are used exclusively to hold the striker in a position that everyone knows the ball isn’t going but there is technical reason for Steele and others sitting in what appears to be a terrible position.

Then he isolates the striker against 2/3 defenders so when we do get wide there isn’t a lot of numerical advantage. Which seems to be anti A League and maybe even modern football.
Without pinning the opposition there is a lack of player attacking the defenders.
There is limited movement too.

Now this worked fantastically well last season and no one will deny that. It was probably also perfect for tournament football and we ground out the AFC Cup taking our one or two chances and dogged defense.

A League is a very fast breaking game. It’s not necessarily bad to be different but we are slow in attack allowing defenders to get set and instantly making there job easier.

We also have a drop off in consistency as a team selection and the players just aren’t as good but he is responsible for the foreigners under his watch who have all been ordinary or no better than what we have.

I think he is technically smart but I do wonder if Monty recommendation was for the wrong sort of cosch considering who we play vs each coach.

The crowd slso doesnt respond well to the chess slow defensive first half style. The Harry Steele’s of the future were all running around bored chasing each other last night. Sure they are that age but there was no thought of the game but using there energy for fun (maybe not a big deal but it’s not ideal)

Maybe he is doing an outstanding job with an ordinary squad or maybe things are starting to turn against him.

Will be interesting to keep an eye on

Well we need to bolster our defence and our attack.

Kaltak was on the right as Jacko was pressured back to a back 4.

However Sains coming back has been decent at tackling and showing signs of through balls and Paul did make some nice runs up the left recently as well.

So to mix it up a bit would you consider:
* Moving Mauragis & Kuz up
* Moving Paul a bit more left to allow Kaltak back on CB left.
* And how bout Trent at CDM!

Doka———Herrington———Kaltak————Paul
——<<<<<<<———-Sains———->>>>>>——
Kuz————Eames———DiPizio———Mauragis—————————Durate——————————

Sculina 4 Eames/Piz
Roux 4 any back
Faisel 4 Kuz
Theo 4 Mauragis
Kuol 4 Duarte

Steele 4 a mid depending if chasing or leading

I was thinking the other day about Sains playing at CDM.He is a good passer of the ball and I think when he was at Grasshoppers he played a few games in that position.I think it is worth a try now that our chances of making the finals are gone.
