Mariners make "Star" signing
Wednesday, 8 July 2009
by Glen Lauder

The Central Coast Mariners are delighted to announce Star 104.5 as a Major Sponsor and exclusive Radio Partner for the Hyundai A-League 2009/10 season.

"We are delighted to be partnering with Star 104.5 for what we know will be an enjoyable ride. I have no doubt this partnership will help make the difference, both on an off the field across the coast," said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.

"As footballers, we make great radio!" said Star 104.5 General Manager Andy Mathers.

"Were extremely proud to be on board with the Central Coast Mariners. This exciting partnership will unite two strong Central Coast brands focused on entertaining Central Coast fans, both on air, and on the field."

Gorman believes the partnership between two evolving, dynamic brands can only benefit a region both parties are so passionate about.

"As a result of our partnership with Star 104.5, Mariners members, supporters and partners can look forward to many new and innovative promotions and initiatives over the coming months, that will make being a member of the "Mariners Family" even more exciting and rewarding," Gorman said.

Star is owned by Singo I think ... Alan Jones 2GB etc part of a wider group... with the recent Timmy thing and Jones defense of TC .. not a bad partner ...

Could be lots of adds rather than money ..

No difference to what we are doing. The deal does not affect match day broadcasting.

This is basically moving the radio media partner from 2GO to Star. After four years of saturating the 2GO audience this could be a good move to get some new people on board.

And yes, everyone has their price.

Apparently all of the Star FM Network is owned by the Daily Mail Group an English Newspaper group....at least it was when they started up 4 years ago.

but isn't the deal that the a-team, not coast fm, hold the rights? in other words, if 2GO, sea fm or star came with $$$, the a-team could go there and the rights go with?

so will all the promotion at the beginning of the games be done by star fm rather than sea fm now?

you would have to think so, though the guy who organises match day entertainment is an event manager with no ties to both stations

Does "Major Sponsor" mean they replace Business Central Coast on the front of our strip?

I'll blow up deluxe if that ugly "thecoast.cc" stays there :(

no, 2GO was a major sponsor as well - it is just replacing one radio group with another

most of this sponsorship would be contra - radio space, promotions, etc

So do we know who will be front and centre? Is thecoast.cc staying, are we going back to having Central Coast on there ala my signature? The season's less than a month away and no real news on our kit...?
