    ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

    ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Mariner stuff not worthy of a whole thread

Did anybody seriously expect the FFA to let us have a W-League team?

FFA's main concern would probably be that they'd struggle to roster all the W-League games on a Sunday arvo AND all the CCM HAL games on a sunday Arvo while not allowing any to be a double header.

The FFA confirmed the following:

  • The 2017/18 season will remain a nine team competition and this position will be reviewed again in 12 months time;
  • There remains the opportunity for the Mariners to return to the competition in the 2018/19 season;

  • That the provision of additional change rooms at Central Coast Stadium prior to the 18/19 Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League seasons is paramount to CCM successful inclusion in the W-League competition.
  • Adequate player facilities (change rooms) are fundamental for FFA to ensure Central Coast Stadium can host Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League double headers.
If these are the only reasons given by the FFA then it still points at the council. The council has talked platitudes for years while treating CCM badly and fawning over NRL teams with cushy deals. Promises for next year just don't cut it. Lawrie's excuse was always that he couldn't fight for us because it was a conflict of interest - frankly then, he did us no favours by being there.

Although I'm sure there is a long history of lack of support from the NRL biased council, I can't agree with your conclusion if what the Council has stated is correct. If the Council HAS committed to building the change rooms in time for the competition, that should be enough for FFA approval.

The FFA stance is like FIFA saying that your application to host a World Cup is dependent on the facilities already being built.

I'm suspicious that FFA have other motives for rejecting the bid. Perhaps adding another team has not been budgeted for? Or they have another bid in the pipeline for the 10th Club from somewhere else, eg. a new A-League Club?

I did have the caveat in there If these are the only reasons given by the FFA. But you are right - there are also the reasons that they may not have given or CCM have not published.

True and we know we only like to tell people it wasn't our fault
But
The council say Draft budget and should be built not are confirmed and building starts tomorrow and will be finished next week.

No doubt FFA are probably being dodgy but so are the council.

Also which other W League teams actually play at the A League venue. Very little i think.

Why could we not play at Pluim for a season. We would be the only team playing out of our venue all season long.

Was the bid based on double headers? If so then there is our problem. Would make sense as far as venue hire goes

Doesn't really matter if we upset the council anyway as they will be out but politically they are a liberal administration and the liberal party just signed off on the bidding for the woman's world cup, which we would be a perfect venue for.

Unfortunately it's going to be build it first and then we will see if it's adequate. Stuffing up last season with the double headers has come back to bite us?

Not sure about this one. I can't remember details but thought one of the new A-League bidders tried to get a W-League team and was knocked back already.

That doesn't sound right - surely the FFA wouldn't be able to say either way until the bid is formally assessed.

Although we all know FFA have pre-approved the Wollongong bid and nobody else need apply ;-)

The W-League is played over 14 rounds (9 teams- should that be 16 rounds). Was the extra cost to the FFA to take it to 18 rounds the reason to knock it back?

Extra refs and linesman etc per round so a decent enough cost considering money is tight

Not sure if it's been mentioned elsewhere, but CCM will have their first pre season match on 5th July at pluim against (I believe) a ccf select side.

David Gallop was on the radio the other day discussing the World Cup bid. Asked if any new stadiums would be built, he replied no.
He then went on to say the games would be played in the six major cities.

From what he said I don't think they're planning on playing games at Gosford.
