Met Gumps at Terrigal one day. He was there with a German mate and i called out Gumpy and he turned around straight away and came over for a handshake with my family (beautiful person)
My son was maybe 7yo at the time and had no filter......my Dad says you are the best player in the team" and Gumps face lights up....thank you son....."but he also reckons he is the best player in his team", and leaves it hanging to amusement of Andre and his pal.

Gumpey was the crowd favourite and when Lawrie started picking a rather talented Jedinak in the starting role infront of Gumps the stadium would erupt when he came on as a sub. Good times!

Imagine having Gumps, Pondeljak and Jedi in the same squad!

Met Gumpy at the 3-3 draw with victory in 06/07 (j.McMaster special!), he was injured so came over to sit with the fans. Smashing beer from a soft drink cup to stay low profile 😂 we got chatting, said I was from Tassie, he gave me his number and told me to get in touch and he’d sort out tickets to the NYE game. True to his word, we got tickets. Best friend and I drove my parent’s bedecked blue van from Launnie to Gosford, we got invited to the stadium, met Lawrie, Vidmar, Tobin, got some sick merch, kicked a ball around on the pitch while the local news filmed us. Have been chasing that dragon ever since 🥲
