ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Mariner stuff not worthy of a whole thread

Really enjoyed the little 5minute video the club did with Browny on Facebook. Beautiful nostalgia.
Was my favourite player as a young boy in those early years.
But it also brings your mind back to current affairs and how we could’ve so easily had around 4 of our own in the current squad contributing quality to the cause.
My biggest wish going forward.

Was down at Austin Butler this morning for my grandson's presentation and Josh Nisbet & Danny were there handing out trophies with smiling faces. Don't know how many parents realised who they were and the guy introducing them was nearly drowned out by the chatter. Made sure I shook hands and thanked them for being there, told them I'd be cheering them on from Bay 15 this year.

The way the club is getting behind the finals is great targeted community engagement. Whoever came up with the idea needs to keep doing what they’re doing.

100%
It’s a fantastic idea. The video features on social media have also been good. Hopefully they did one with Clarky too given he no longer has any SFC connection.
There’s almost a whole generation on the coast who have snubbed the club, even through the good years, for whatever reason. Way too many former/current CCF rep players in that group too. Almost been impossible to get them on side with the club. But I feel like this kind of community engagement is a great start. Hopefully it works.

Thats an interesting point - one noticable feature of CCU games is how many faces I see who used to go to CCM. There is/was/has been an anti CCM sentiment that I have seen from some people in some clubs. I have never understood why. Jealousy maybe.
I always thought it odd

It’s always blown my mind that this certain generation has never been on board. And it’s hard to pin point why.
Some of them could be jealous that they weren’t involved in the building of the club or whatever. It doesn’t matter, I just know it doesn’t make sense to hate your own local pro team... especially when so many of them are proud coasties. People don’t realise how lucky we are.
The fan base would be a lot stronger and unified with them on board.

'It’s one of the best groups I’ve worked with': Birighitti praises teammates after penalty heroics

Penalty shootout hero Mark Birighitti believes his match-winning performance is a result of his quickly-formed connection with his Central Coast Mariners teammates.

Birighitti only arrived in Gosford earlier this month but has immediately endeared himself to Mariners fans after saving two penalties in the shootout to help his side overcome Brisbane Roar on Wednesday night.

QUARTER FINAL STORYLINES: Minnow's incredible chanxce to make more history
BEST BITS: Everything you need to know after a thrilling Round of 16 match day 2

After scores were locked at 2-2 after 120 minutes, the Perth-born gloveman denied both Roy O'Donovan and Tom Aldred from the spot to send the Mariners into the last eight for the first time since 2014.

Speaking to the Mariners' official website after the match, Birighitti said: “I’ve loved it here from day one and the result tonight speaks for itself, I’m so happy for the boys.

“It’s one of the best groups I’ve worked with and I’m not just saying that for the sake of it.

“From day one they’ve welcomed me with open arms, and I enjoy going to training and having a laugh with these boys but at the same time working hard on the training pitch.

AS IT HAPPENED: Re-live all the goals and big moments from Round of 16 Match Day 2
WRAP: Wanderers record huge win, Mariners through on penalties

“I couldn’t be happier and prouder of this group and I’m proud to represent this club and play for this group."

After taking a first-half lead through Matt Simon's penalty, the Mariners conceded immediately after the break via Bradden Inman's goal.

Alen Stajcic's side then looked to have won the match in normal time when youngster Sam Silvera scored with less than 10 minutes left, only to give away a penalty a minute later, which O'Donovan converted.

That setback could have derailed the new-look Mariners squad but they regrouped in extra-time before some Birighitti brillance sent them into the last eight.

“The game kind of swung both ways. We had our opportunities, Brisbane had their opportunities and going into extra-time it was never going to be easy," the former Reds and Jets keeper said.

“After 90 minutes that extra half hour kills the boys and I kind of had the feeling it was going to penalties.

"I was just happy I could play my part for the team and the boys in that dressing room."

The Mariners have been drawn to play Victorian NPL side Hume City in the last eight, with the match to take place on either Tuesday, September 17 or Wednesday, September 18.

Not Strictly Mariners, but it would probably not be seen in the A league thread.

The A-League is set to join the NRL and AFL with the first female referee appointed to the league's match official panel.

Kate Jacewicz, an eight-time W-League referee of the year, is one of two new names added to the league's referees panel for the 2019-20 season along with Ben Abraham.

Great. She'd have to be better than some of the clowns we've had in the last few seasons. I just hope she can stand up to guys trying to bully her.

Can’t be any worse than the usual muppets.
