i was at the nye game mariners v victory and the victory supporters shitted all over us with their chanting and yelling. kinda disappointing when they had THE SAME AMMOUNT OF PEOPLE as the marinators.

someone tell me what happened to the old ORIGINAL chants??

exp:

mattyyyyyyy simon
(mattyyyyy simon)

score us a goal
(score us a goal)

win us the toilet seat
(win us the toilet seat)

and bring it on home
(and bring it on home)
then start YELLING: yellow army

what about the whole chanting back when vukovic was in goal when we'd ALL yell:

danny whats the score?
danny danny wats the score?

he'd turn around smiling with hands in the air showing 1 nil to the mariners. His morale was boosted 100% because of this as he told me face to face.

Lets do this with ryan in goal??

Couldn't agree more mate.

The old chants are still used occasionally. If I remember correctly the what's the score chant was tried briefly by the back of the bay. It's a good chant.

Unfortunately some Marinators got what they asked for. During seasons one and two when the marinators were arguably at their peak, a core of supporters complained about obscene language, sexist chants and showers of beer.

The hard core reply was if you don't like it then f**k off.

Well clearly a large number f**ked off.

Irony is a large number of those hard liners no longer seem to be present either.

Get over it.

We are nearly 6 years down the track. What happens now is made by those who want to be involved in those sort of support methods now.

If you want it to happen, be there and make it.

Those who have moved on support in their way.

I thought Bay 16 did just fine yesterday, and are clearly on the improve. If people want it bigger or louder they should roll up their sleeves and get in there. It's not Bay 16's job to entertain you and their support is going better than it has been in a couple of years and getting better all the time.

that first chant you suggested, if i can remember correctly, wasnt popular and was only really done when we were down on confidence. While the whats the score chant has been tried by the guys down the front with only one or two replies from matty, also danny was playing with alot more confidence and freedom, matty is just starting to build his confidence by concentrating on the game (although the 2nd goal didnt exactly help).
No offence, but if you with the guys trying to start the whats the score chant last night, only do that if the ball is on the far side of the field and not when the other team is attacking our goal.

haha yeah we were singing that when the ball went out for a corner or a goal kick to the victory.

and mate we sang that toilet seat chant whether we were winning or losing especially when we were up 3-0 in the return major semi final against newy all those years ago.

wat about the chant when matty simon scored or kwasnik? do you remember that one?

Hi ashaman,

I sit with my kids and family so im not in the bay, but I don't miss games, and as Dibo said, the active support is clearly getting better after its seeming collapse a few seasons ago.
KUTGW crew!

It's good to hear you got in there Ashaman unlike may who post criticisms on here about our active supporters.
The active support has clearly been in a rebuilding period and seems to be going from strength to strength, but what you probably don't know is that every six weeks or so someone comes on here and has a go about not being loud enough at the very people who turn up game after game and do their utmost to give us active support. And who without which we wouldn't have any active support anymore at all. I'm sure you'll agree this has to be pretty hard to bare for them. To be honest I'm pretty impressed no ones had a real go at you, there skins must be getting pretty conditioned by now :) And probably because you got in there putting your money where your mouth is.

Anyhow, if people like you keep getting involved and bringing friends and everyone can be patient and keep it positive, then I'm sure even though away fans are nearly always louder, we will likely be out chanting them in the seasons to come.

This debate has gone on for years. Our football matches need noise and atmosphere. Nobody is forcing anyone to sing chants they don't like. Likewise, there's no harm in allowing others to chant in the way they like.

If supporters are willing to put in the effort to get chants started then I'm all for the added atmosphere whether I like the chant or not. There are certainly plenty in the crowd who like the simpler chants. The loudest the stadium ever gets is when the Mariner 3 Clap chant goes up and I would never want to kill that off whilst we don't have a feasible replacement. I think it's a fair guess that moments like those are what motivates the non-grass roots supporters to come back during this part of the season.

Unfortunately, this forum has never been the place to get support for chants. From what I've seen, it's leadership at the games that makes this happen.

Yes, people left because of the swearing! LOL. Clearly you have it all worked out.

so you propose the more complicated chants that no one sings and therefore there is no atmosphere? that method has really worked the last couple of years hasn't it?

the bay is improving because it is getting simpler, more inclusive and certain individuals are standing up and providing real leadership

The question im putting accross is where have all the original chants gone from seasons past as i havent heard them in ages??

is it just the fact people in the marinators think they are shit or is it the 16yo's in bay 16??

and plus wat ever happened to "the dock"??

Spot on.

Leadership is an important point and this year has been a great improvement. The bay is getting a much more light-hearted and relaxed feeling, particularly with the themes like 'Old School Saturday', 'Christmas' and 'The Beach' which are bringing fun to the bay. I've noticed in the last few games, others are willing to start chants without fear of being shot down in flames. No doubt we are making progress but it is going to take a while to heal the wounds.
