Agree we played crap against Brisbane.
We defended well against Adelaide who if they play with the same five man midfield they did against us will frustrate a lot of teams.

I thought we completely outplayed Sydney and they were lucky to get a point.

on 2nd thought- your right...i stand correct

should read
played good but crap result (opposite to melbourne)

As always it sucks to eb the coach but he has to find balance between being able to watch...and win
i think we all prefer melbourne win (gulp...even me) to sydney result etc.

What irked me for sydney game...he used only 1 sub! Shocking! Especially when you have Travis on the bench! What the?
That's inexcusable IMHO

FYI... Lawrie hasn't won me over...
He doesn't have to...
He's never lost me.

ur kind of missed the point of my post...nothing bout team selection
I think I have come to the conclusion that Lawrie just aint good on matchdays...more so training and for the most part (what you were hinting at my unhappiness) player recruitment!
he must do some good training sessions, because at times we are playing pretty well. But his tactical flexibility and use of subsitutions just plain stinks!

I said from before Hal 4 ended that LM had till the first round to turn the side around or he was gone... No inside knowledge just seemed after Jedi left we could not replace him... much like the Tards when they lost Fred & the Choppers when they lost York.... While not saying we could have kept loosing my guess is LM earned the right to have a last try... has he passed ...

In all fairness we leaked goals ... that seems to be fixed given we are the best defensive side... as I have said before I think the midfield of Wee Mac & Travis add Huke in the side plus Crowell & the mid field is looking fine ... under statement the mid field is looking very strong... Up front Matty considering each match his knee is bandaged is playing well ...

But maybe in the forwards it could be better ... LM says to give them time on what I saw Nil & Dylan did not give me the impression they are even close to firing... I would rather we grab the best youth striker we have and start to blood him and getting use to balls coming from the midfield...

But after 7 rounds ... a quick look ... the defense is fixed, the signings made in Doig, Huke, Travis & Wee Mac ... have all worked which is more than any other team has achieved when buying four imports... to play we he have Fury & the Sheep Shaggers  the two bottom placed teams...

The team in general is improving ... we are playing tactical games ... the Tards was excellent...

We see after the next three to four rounds but on the balance to date LM has kept his job... interestingly a post on another site ... explaining that we have quite a good technical coach ...

The guy who wrote this is essentially saying that LM is not a bad coach ... its worth a read...

Anatomy of a goal

The interesting thing about the opening goal was that it told us so much about CCM and GCU it was almost as if CCM had concentrated its greatest strength at GCUs weakest point with a goal being the inevitable outcome.

Consider:

1. The attack starts with one of the twin towers winning the ball in the air but he didnt even win it cleanly, it almost rolled down his back. Forget the aethetics of it, the key here is that Macallister had moved up a line, thus creating a mismatch with the screeners, and my guess is that that would have been an instruction from Lawrie, because

2. Simon was in a stack of space in the hole no defender or DM to be seen for miles, in other words, with everyone following team instructions, Simon knew where to be, and had the time to turn and run at the defence.

3. Travis clearly knew where to be as well because he was on the spot so quickly producing the second mismatch within two seconds.

4. Simon actually had someone out wide to his left, and my initial thought was that thats where the ball would end up, favouring his right foot I suspect the right side of the defence was thinking the same thing and no doubt were caught in two minds Simon had the presence of mind to deftly caress it with the outside of his foot into the path of Travis not something we actually associate with the bang, crash, take no prisoners style of Simon!!

5. Rees assumes too much before Travis takes control of the ball, Rees assumes he will continue on his right foot commits in that direction and Travis does what any intelligent player would do, transfers play to his left side where all of a sudden there is a stack of space.

6. Rees is over-committed and too slow to get back to where he should have been all along this allows Travis a stack of time to get back to his favoured right and pick his spot a far better defender would have recovered more quickly and shut off that option, and forced Travis back on his left.

Result: regulation finish from the top of the box with the whole goal face to aim for and minimal pressure on the shot

For mine, having watched the replays as well now... being in the middle of four defenders and sliding just to get your shot off is a little more than minimal pressure...

Apart from that... interesting...

But does feel a little like an art critic reading too much into a painting.

But hey nice to get someone looking at our games in a positive and in depth manner.
Who knows... we may even get a mention of Fox sports FC this week!?
:eek: ::)

+1

What a load of crap.Sometimes things just happen in a game you know.

When Simon got the ball Travis saw a chance, ran through, beat the defence and scored.

Simple.
