its folly to think that football is reduced to a knockout competition, with it being low scoring. Cup finals tend to be boring affairs where both teams go into a shell and defend like crazy as we saw yesterday specifically with a multitude of back passes to Covic or another example is last years FA cup final where one lapse from the defense gifted Chelsea a goal. or the world cup final in 2006 where a headbutt from Zidane was remembered more than the game itself which after 1-1 went to a shootout

This is something we need to remember if football is going to be successful in Australia in the long term

You have to imagine that SFC and MV will be much stronger next year (I still think the Tards have the best squad in the HAL).

The real comp is about who has the best squad to come out on top after 21/27 rounds. The post season cup is not the real prize (and I posted that before the GF so it isnt sour grapes).

The key for us next year is what depth we can add. The Jets have to hope that they sort out their money issues and can settle their players down. No one wants to go to work and worry about being paid. Con cant compete with the money that is now in the HAL and keeping the squad together wont be easy.

In the NRL/ AFL the goal is to win the Grand Final, to come out on top at the very end of the semis.

In the A-League (as with most soccer leagues throughout the world) the goal is to be the team who finishes the regular season on top. Indeed, in the EPL the "Grand Final" is no more than the 2nd placed team challenging the 1st placed team.
