The MAGA lunatics don't win you elections. They just make sure that the Dems and Independents turn out in larger numbers. It is really a case of preaching to the converted.

Polls that look at what 'likely' voters will do at this stage are meaningless as a majority of people in America at this stage do not believe that Trump will be the Republican nominee.

I've no doubt that Trump will win the Republican primaries but he only gets about 80% of Republican voters in a general election and around 30% independents. At the same time his presence on the ballot energizes the turnout of Democrats. That's why Haley is much more likely to beat Biden in a general election as unless there is someone to galvanise who to vote against the vote for Biden will be markedly lower than four years ago.

In the case where Trump's number tanks because of a number bad court outcomes and he drops out then the turnout across the board will be less. Only then would Biden look at dropping out and the Dems look at who could improve their turnout.

I had no interest in US politics until Trump bumbled his way into the white house and the daily anticipation wondering what new faux pas this imbecile will make each day. As someone else said, he was "The worst political appointment since Incitatus". I heard back then that Melania didn't want to be first lady. I'm not sure what to make of it but she is notably absent in this campaign.

The one big thing that will swing for Biden is abortion. Proposals will be on the ballot in a number of states but importantly Arizona and Nevada and it may even pull Florida into play. If Biden wins those state he doesn't need Wisconsin, Michigan or Pennsylvania.
