ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

How good is Gumpy?

People are allowed an opinion.............the fact that no other HAL club came in for Gumps when coming off contract (except Gold Coast reportedly but fell thru) perhaps says something about what the professional coaches think.

Gumps is great for the Coast because no other other player gets a reaction from the crowd which lifts us and the players, the only other who would come close is Matty Simon.

Gumps had a FANTASTIC first season, because of this the crowd fell in love with him and the love affair will always remain, plus he is the nicest guy you could meet (very unusual for a German ;))  Season 2 he picked up that injury at Melbourne and never looked the same, in the the off season he was training hard, playing well and was rewarded with another contract, sadly picked up that injury.  He's now coming back and training just as hard, credit to him and I hope he does the business for us.

Deej,

Fair comments.

I get frustrated sometimes on this forum because some people cant see that Gumps is a quality player. Sure he getting on a bit and is not perfect but his IS quality and that is something we lack a bit of at times.
I also get frustrated because some of the same people used to tell me that Trotty, Kwassie and MacMaster were good players and deserved a starting spot. It's hard to take some people on here seriously.  Loyal and vocal supporters in the Marinators..yes.but.knowledgable some off you aint.

There is no more a pathetic sight than seeing drunk poms sing songs about WWll.

I went to Germany 06 and some of the poms' behaviour was disgusting and appalling. Not many but some. As usual they let their country down and is a example of why most of Europe hate them. And by the way, they can't play Football either.

Europe hates us for many reasons. Chief among them being that we are simply better than any of them and have been for a 1,000 years. They know it and they hate it.

British by birth, English by the Grace of God.

You know that 10 German Bombers was originally sung by schoolkids, right??

So you'll be sure to criticise those who sing "10 Japanese Zeroes" come February and June, yes??

Just making sure.  :p

Actually it's 2 World Wars and 1 World Cup and having 2 Grandfathers who served in WWII I think that I'm entitled to celebrate the end of the Nazi's reign of terror through Europe...

However pathetic I might sound when drunk!

Us Jocks don't hate them really. We just pretend by singing about beating them in the odd battle a few hundred years ago......while drunk of course! ;)

On subject. If Gumpy starts will we fire up from the start this week?

Gumps nearly scored again on the weekend, think that with more starts/game time his touch and match fitness will only improve,(remembering he's coming back from a nasty knee injury).

His experience and abillity to read the game, moving the ball into the open areas or making the runs into this space himself, I believe will be critical to us making the final 4. Thinking back to how he was brought on toooooooo late in the GF (also Tommy) really cost us the Championship. Good to see Lawrie back up from last week and give Gump's a full 90min.

Gumps at RM also provides great cover for Porter at RB. Whilst not his natural position, I thought he had one of his best defensive games for us on Saturday.

I notice that Gumps dropped to cover Porter when he went forward a few times and that kind of experience (let Porter do his running) is great for us.

no, it was a bit more specific than that.

Gumps had to start a regular season comp game and score a goal for bear to eat his shirt.

So far, gumps has started and scored, but in preseason, and he has started but not scored in a regular season comp game. The time could be coming though!

Actually... http://marinators.net/forum/index.php?topic=1914.0 on the first page:
As a person, you wont meet a nicer bloke around, but we wont win a game this year where Gumps starts and finishes the game on the park, and ill eat my shirt if we do
First it has to be an A-league match, now he has to score as well? All he said was he has to start and finish a match in which we win in - nothing about scoring. Just eat that shirt already. :p
