I was giving Archies a second chance as I do with most places. One exception the bistro no longer at the CCLC. Several members of my family got food poisoning at that Bistro at CCLC. As far as the word chinese is concerned it is despised, not mentioned, thought or even eaten in our home. I remember my father in law who flew fighters in Korea for the RAF, whose funeral was paid for by the insistence of the RSL telling me the yellow peril is what you should be concerned about maybe not your lifetime but certainly your children's.

I guess you don’t eat pasta, ice cream or drink tea then?

And fyi, the owners and workers at the Leaguesy Chinese are from Hong Kong, not China. They have been here for many decades.

On the food topic, went down to the Crown Plaza yesterday or whatever it is called now to drown our sorrows with a few beers music and food. The team were there doing likewise and I must say what a decent bunch of human beings they all are. No one big noting themselves and they were all nice and calm and restrained and so much respect for people around them unlike a team of NRL players. You can see how close they all are which translated into such a great year on the field when simply looking at names on the team sheet was a big overachievement for the squad . Had a chat with the boys as well and was nice to hear from Marco where he really wants to stay at the club so hope the club obliges. Food wasn‘t to bad either.

It has taken me fully 48 hours to look at the forum after Saturday night’s disappointment and I still haven’t been able to bring myself to watch the game on replay yet….. I had to console myself with watching our NPL boys smash SD Raiders at Pluim to take away some of the hurt, so well done to Monty’s charges for their performance yesterday.

For me the simple truth was that Staj sadly didn’t have the courage to change up the system once they went down to 10 men, preferring to persist with a narrow formation (as he has for much of the season), when width and pace was what was needed. Casella and/or Hatch could have given us the needed lift and we should have been taking the game to Mcarthur more than we actually did when we had a man advantage and not seemingly holding out for extra time. I certainly don’t hold Staj to blame entirely but he has shown a tendency to hesitate on making changes when they are clearly required and that is something he will need to work on moving forward.

IMHO I would have preferred to lose a thriller 3-2 than slide out 2-0 against 10 men. We saw what some of the fringe players could bring against WU the weekend before, so it is disappointing that Staj couldn’t seem to trust them again this weekend.

As others have said, this was a huge and perhaps unexpected improvement on recent seasons past but it cannot just be a one off and the even harder work to improve further next season should not be underestimated.

All that said, it was great to want to watch the boys again each week and I truly hope that the club can keep the core of the team together for next season.

Great post. Entirely agree. Staj is a fantastic coach but everyone still has things to learn and improve.

For mine by nature he’s clearly well considered, cautious and conservative. Which I much prefer to reckless but decisions like keeping a striker of Mattys age on till the 88th minute when he’s not having any impact on the game and you have young hungry attacking power to come off the bench and run at ten men, seems to be leaning much too far into being risk adverse.

When we’re struggling it’s easier to make changes and he’s made brilliant substitutions that have won us games, but when things are tightly balanced, his default has been to just hold on any change tactically and with subs. Which will work sometimes, but fail in others. Knowing when to risk is the next evolution I hope we’ll see from Staj, Because playing against ten, really, we needed to go after them. Anything less gives them a chance. Which they jagged and we lost.

Though to be fair, let’s hope we have better players on the bench next year so he also feels more confident in making subs when games are tight.

Second that, Cassella may be young, skinny and naive but he is full of spunk and quick to explode, He makes a mess of things at times but ialways gets in the heat of the action.
We needed to up the pace, regardless of formation, to tire them and create the spaces due to their man down.
For me, Reece was the other who needed to get on.

simply put olli needed resting 6 weeks ago . we have janota and didn't give him time . it cost us
we needed penetration on the wing and speed hatch got ten minutes one week out from a final. it cost us

with the crowd we had saturday and playing like that . you can kiss 1500 memberships away .

i have grave doubt we will build on this season once our losses occur.

Given that Macarthur, by rights, lost in regulation time in our match I don't want a team to have won the first final in that fashion to go through to the GF.
City and Sydney....I'm neutral towards, although I usually prefer it to go to a club that has had less success.
