Hill backhand to fozzie

Jesus good post, i was going to thread about fozzie, but thought id wait to see
his review of rd 1.

my view, we used to worry about pims derision of the A-league, but he still (sometimes out of circumstance) shows faith in the leagues players, and he is fundamentally relevant to the contemporary game in australia. Pim also has the placement to influence where the league is going, hopefully to good effect, he is not the concern.

More over, lets worry about Fozzie, he COULD single handedly bring down the league with the filth and slander he has put through the printing press, i have agreed with fozzie twice in all the years ive read his dribble, a has been from a decade ago who still holds incredible sway over the general population, the League is barely in its 5th year, does he not realise this, and the fact that most "perfect style" leagues have been around for decades, it needs time to develop and this incessant rubbishing of a developing league is going to send it backwards.

and dont get me started on yesterdays article

Australian football has become known for a rough and ready style, i am personally a supporter of it and i hope we can develop some technicality into it rather than change it and while
what he says is not damaging me personally, but if it unnecessarily damages what i believe in and put some reasonable hard earned in supporting , then i cant help but say hes a twat!!!

Foster has an opinion like all of us. If you don't like him, don't watch TWG. Pretty simple really. He's not Pat Malone in his criticism of us.

Time for some to stop being so sensitive and precious. Why does it matter to so many what he says? Water off a duck's back to me.

Fozzie is in no ordinary chair ... he sits as the JW replacement.. he has a lot of influence and in football terms a large audience...

The constant twin attack on Poms / Scottish / ANGLO coaches and technical ability of the league hurts a lot...with crowds the league acceptance by those who have chosen not to come yet...

While everyone in football agrees with the need to improve technical skills most accept the systems put in place ... including the youth league and national talent identification programs  will lead to improvement but it will take 10 to 20 years. They are the systems that JW wanted..

There are very few in the football media to counter his ... rantings ... He causes a lot of damage to the A-League ... BUT he has little balance in his comments and yet he claims  balance in his judgments..

Read http://www.theroar.com.au/2009/08/07/a-victory-for-one-manager-a-template-for-eight-others/ and this is a good match report most others where like it.. Then read Fozzies..

That our club is attacked is .. NOT BY ACCIDENT'''' the Inbreds (AU)  played almost the same game plan and where given some praise...  on the balance thing...If you go back pre Hal ... and ever since and listen to Lyall talk about the MCOE ... his words could have come from Fozzzie ... yet he has never talked about it or mentioned it and it is a 60 million plus investment in the very thing he craps on about each week ...believe me it is ... NO ACCIDENT ... we cope only crap from SBS..

I am reminded of the following song in relation to Fozzie treatment of the Mariners and A-League in general...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MotNtq41NDw

Oh Were Not Gonna Take It
No, We Aint Gonna Take It
Oh Were Not Gonna Take It, Anymore

Weve Got The Right To Choose And
There Aint No Way Well Lose It
This Is Our Life, This Is Our Song
Well Fight The Powers That Be Just
Dont Pick Our Destiny cause

You Dont Know Us, You Dont Belong

Oh Were Not Gonna Take It
No, We Aint Gonna Take It
Oh Were Not Gonna Take It, Anymore

Oh Youre So Condescending
Your Gall Is Never Ending

We Dont Want Nothin
Not A Thing From You
Your Life Is Trite And Jaded
Boring And Confiscated
If Thats Your Best, Your Best Wont Do

Jerome, Fozzie is an idiot, and his rants are becoming an embarrassment to SBS. The bottom line is that the HAL needs club supporters, and supporters want to see their team win. We are a smallish population in Australia, and football has to contend with the other ball codes. Attendances have waxed and waned over the few short years since the revolution of the A-League, however I see it gaining stronger support because of A. inclusion of new teams, B. Australia's success in qualifying for the next WC, C. Australia's bid to host the event in 2018 - 2022, and D. the HAL becoming more attractive and family friendly as apposed to the other football codes.

Greater attendances at games = more money. More Money = clubs can invest in better players. Better payers = higher level of skill.

Fozzie just can't get his head around it.

For what it's worth, that is the way I see it. And please don't throw popcorn at me... :)

Did Fozzie retire on his own accord after his last season at the Spirit or did the incoming coach (a certain Lawrie McKinna) tell him that he was surplus to requirements?

LOL. There certainly appears to be no love lost between Lawrie and Fozz. Sounds like a rumour that could become fact

Yeah I thought that too. He'll do what he usually does. Bag the Irish, and then pick one or two players from our squad he likes and rave/brown nose about them, allowing him to managing to avoid praising the entire team or coach.

anyone else notice on sunday night on SBS with pedj sitting next to him he went on about the "10 minutes of good football" as if the only part of the game that was good football was where the jets picked up tempo?  a$$hole!

I did notice that Pedj looked rather nervous and could even hear the nervousness in his voice.

Once I saw that, I switched off & did better things other than listen to Foster trying to tell a current player - who is in great form - that he is playing ina shit comp. and the game he just played the day before was crap.

I honestly don't know why people in the Mariners bother sending players to the SBS studios. They are not going to change their mind about the club because we are nice guys and send a player or two for their ambushes, er, I mean, interviews.

And if the comments about Lawrie cutting Foster from the Spirit squad are anything to go by, maybe insist that unless Lawrie himself goes into the studios they can just f**k off. Would be good to see Lawrie 'do an Ange' on Foster & tell all the viewers WHY Foster is so belittling towards the Mariners AND Scotsmen generally! (I bet Foster is shit scared of Lawrie and Fergie if the comments about him being cut are true)

I, for one, would totally excuse Lawrie if he lost his usual friendly demeanour on National TV and let fly with some home truths for the viewers to think about, tbh.

Love Foz in this video. He has every right to say what he did, Ange didn't have the good grace to cop the criticism and talk about it civilly, instead he decides to go on a rampage and basically force Foz to tell him that he thinks he should resign.

Well, that is your opinion - mine is different.

I view that as Ange saying: "Now hang on a  minute, I have to answer to the FFA board about the performance and if they decide to terminate me that's the way it is. But I won't come on TV and be ambushed into a ' you're so shit it's unbelievable' type barrage from an upstart who has never coached at the top level or done enough in journalism to properly structure questions so they won't offend the subject or descend into personal attacks".

I remember thinking, at the time, that Ange should have gone, but given the lack of resources available at the time to his squad, it was perhaps inevitable that they won't perform as well.

Only those who were on the FFA board would have been aware of the resources allocated to Ange and that team, or more importantly, what wasn't given.

Foster, and everybody else, was making comment that the team didn't do well & therefore, the coach as to take the chop. Ange was TRYING to make the point that yes, performances weren't good, but there were other issues (like the lack of resources available to the team) and Foster wasn't allowing him proper time on air to explain this.

Foster, in his pigheaded way, forced the interview to an impasse between them, and it only took Ange's appeal to Les for more air time to explain, more calmly to Les I might add (Murray is 100 times the better journalist than Foster ever hopes to be) after Les gave him a more respectable approach, that resources were also to blame. Ange wasn't backing away from an axing from the FFA Board, but he was damned if he was going to come onto TV and allow himself to be harangued in such a way.

I also think that the Ange clip highlights a very poor interview from Foster. He lost control of the interview and the subject was unwilling to talk to him any further, only talking to Les Murray from the point where the Ange had had enough.

As a journalist Foster made a bad job of this LIVE To AIR interview. He could have easily done what Les did and backed off the pressing questions, took a deep breath, and calmly allowed Ange to make his statement.

Foster should remember that he is not Judge, Jury and Executioner when he's on air, and that his job as a journo is to allow his subjects to make statements to questions, and steer an interview into an overview of a situation, not cross examine him to the point where Ange was just about ready to pull his earphones out and walk off. Questions querying a subject's integrity or personal in nature are best left to pre recorded interviews where inappropriate responses like Ange's outburst could be cut and the interview resumed when both interviewer and subject have calmed down.

If Ange ended up blaming the poor performances of the team he was in charge of, due to a lack of resources, how hard would it have been for Foster to allow the man to say that and then investigate that claim and take the allegation to an FFA spokesperson? You'd soon find out if Ange was bs'ing and you could cover that next week. And you'd still have your reputation intact as an interviewer instead of someone who is prone to ambushing subjects live on air.

Would love to know Fozzie's opinion of this European coach at Sydney; frankly I can't see that he has done anything that is any different to Terry Butcher and he has more money to spend. Fozzie described Chris Doig, deprecatingly, as ' a gennelman from Northampton Tooown', I wonder what he makes of that lump of a swiss cuckoo Keller...

interesting enough on the world game just then he slated lawrie mckinna and slated stephen keller, but not their coach

Keller was no different in Sydney's game vs. us, than what Doig was for us vs. Melbourne. The experienced hand at the backline, the stopper.

Marinermick: How do you know that Foster loves Hutch? Does he use the same hair gel or something?

Can we organise a 5 minute heart to heart between Mr. Northampton Toooown and said dickhead Foster? I know who would be picking up their teeth off the floor at the end of it.
