Wow, what an amazing fall from grace dean heffernan has had. I am the biggest dean heffernan fan and put aside his techincal faults to one side and focus on his heart on the field (excuse the pun). But this guy six months ago was pushing for world cup selection and now can't crack the heart team. Possibly the grass isn't greeener on the other side. I truly think that dean knows how much of a mistake he made leaving us. But that's football, a blessing in disguise was the arrival of rose into our team. This guy is very good, looks like a 35 year old pommy on a summer trip with the lads that hasn't stopped drinking in3 months but for all of heff's teachincal faults, Rose has shown he is technically sound and has shown tremondous heart in his commitment for the team.
I feel really sorry for hef, would I have him back? God yes, but I feel he would provide the same role that he currently has at heart. I wish him all the best but he ain't geting younger and behich is playing pretty damn well.
Will never forget that night when he scored that header against scum in v1 semi final to knock em out.

I am going to get lambasted here but I don't rate him. Too aggressive, not composed enough. To illustrate the point compare him to Patrick and which would you prefer.

Zwaanswijk is a CB, Heff is a wing-back. You could only compare him to Rose, and yes I do agree that Rose is better. I'm actually really surprised at the lack of attention Rose has been receiving as his performances have been quite impressive.

given recent history i think rose is probably just enjoying playing and actually seeing money come in to his bank balance although he is a solid performer in any case

Very true Jerome

Also i truly believe the decision to cut nikas and sign griifiths as a masterstroke by GA. It is clear to see that Nikas just doesnt fit this league (same as porter imo) and so far its safe to say griffiths has been our most outstanding player. I am extremly bias as i play holding midfield but he is the most dominant holding midfielder next to paartalu who is exceptional

Can I ask a question about Nikas in a thread about Heff? Mods, if there's a more appropriate place for this, please do the honours.
I saw a bit of the Fury/Heart match the other night and saw him put up the free kick they scored from, but couldn't stay awake for long after. How did he go for the rest of the match?

rose is a bit under the radar mostly because he seems to be super consistent... like he is always a 7/10. I reckon he will have a cracking game at some point and then become a bit of a fan favorite

Personally I think Heff never got back to his best after he broke his leg, he showed a few signs of it towards the end of last year but I wasn't sad to see him leave. He wanted to go, almost doubled his wage, good luck to him. More than happy to see Rose slot in at LB, he's doing a good job and is pretty consistent.

He was great all game. The commentators loved him and questioned why he he hasn't played before this game. He also put in an amazing through-ball for Daal (I think?) to have a one-on-one chance which he missed.

I agree with Deej, I don't think Heff ever reached the level he showed before he broke his leg.

Never very gifted he compensated with a fantastic work ethic and a tonne of heart.

Useful player but Rose is better.

Wow that didnt take long did it?? A matter of one day. He had a cracker.
He is definitely firmly on the radar now and with the confidence gained from that performance opposition right side defences are in for a testing time from here on in.

Haha we need to start a thread about the players that have been replaced every week and maybe their replacements will keep having crackers like Rosie did tonight!!!

ohhh... and he tackles better too tbh.

Once I'd seen him play a few games I had suggested Rose actually had potential for a look in at LB for socceroos - I still think the idea is not without merit. Carney is better on the ball, but only has a left foot and is shown up consistently for the lack of pace that Rose has. And frankly watching Oz get carved up whenever we face a pace right winger is not enjoyable.

Re Nikas, I like some others wanted him to stay but the reality is he still wouldn't be getting game time here - I believe the Mariners coaches and Panni both knew this and Fury looked to be a good move for him. Finally looks like that will prove to be true.
Was a solid enough game that even if the Fury fold you would think he should be able to find another club.

Further on Panni Spike, it's one of those things, some players look amazing in training, so sharp, fast or skilful, but when it actually comes to the game... their decision making and ability just seems to all slide away.

Panni may not look exceptional or be the kind to significantly standout in training... but as he once again showed the other night, he is a genuine game player. Possesses that ability many players lack to bring his skills to whatever game he plays and showing that innate intelligence on the ball that is so hard to come by.

Rose is superior to Heff.
Better dribbler, cooler temperament - and also a cracking off foot it would seem!
:D

Agree 100% with this. How Rose is being overlooked for the National team beats me. I think he showed against North on the weekend what sort of player he is. Absolutely flat footed North. I do recall watching the World Cup and the thing which struck me was the amount of defenders who were willing to run the ball forward and have a shot. I think Rose would be ideal for the team.
