ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Happy Invasion Day!!!

I think our National Day should be Anzac Day. Plain and simple. As the ad says, 26 January is a day to watch the cricket from the Adelaide Oval and the tennis at Melbourne Park.

Toughen up Aborigines, jeez, that's a big call. Not sure what to think of that one.

I've been to the worst slums in Bourke and Dubbo, I would not wish that on anyone. Substance abuse is endemic, unfortunately. Alice Springs and places like Wadeye are plain frightening, especially for adolescents. Not all Kooris agree with Dodson, it should be noted. Warren Mundine and Noel Pearson certainly do not.

I am pro-Republic, but I reckon we have bigger issues than that to address in this country. The economic downturn, NSW being stuffed by the current State Govt, when to get the hell out of the Middle East, these are more important IMHO.

:goodpost:

Not sure about ANZAC Day though. That is celebrating both Aussie & NZ and the disaster that was Gallipoli.

I also think that there is no reason that this could not debated along side our current woes. I'm sure our great land has the capacity to work on all its issues.

PS. Have to agree about the Queens Birthday. Why are we celebrating a defunct pop band that isn't even Aussie?

yeah i agree that australia day isnt so much about patriotism these days as it is about blind nationalism, the type that hurts i.e. Germany circa 1930's, I believe the same thing would happen from the Australian "sheeple" in the right climate.

I dont advocate getting rid of Australia day or moving it, for good or bad it has significance, but we should be a bit more respectful in the spirit of reconciliation in celebrating it. Queens birthday represents to me what Eid represents to the jews i.e. SFA and should go. ANZAC day is probably the most important day in the Australian culture as its about sacrifice

On the republican debate, which im totally in favour of becoming a republic, though a minimalist (i.e. i support the model presented in the 1999 referendum), I want to say that I want to remove the union jack from the top left hand corner of the Australian flag as it represents oppression to so many peoples who live within Australia and perhaps have a Eureka flag with some native colour representation or something on it to respect the traditional owners of the land.

They did a thing on this on HACK on Triple J this arvo.

What about Federation day...it doesn't get any recognition, but it was an important milestone for us as a country.

Well if Australian history wasn't boiled down to only the "white invasion" and then ww1 & ww2, people may realize a lot more has happened in our great country. Anyone would think we went straight into killing Turks at Gallipoli after we finished wiping out the Aboriginals.
Im not saying the crap that happened when white settlers arrived on the scene (i.e The Myall creek massacre for example) should be forgotten, but ffs a lot of other interesting things have happened as well.
