ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

HAL REFS.

I struggle to see how it was a penalty against Bojic, from any angle of view.  But it was one decision out of many that were made by Williams that night and the remainder of his decisions were uncontentious.  No-one can say how the game would have turned out so it's pointless saying he ruined our game.  You could argue that the Mariners would never have clawed back if they weren't 3-0 down.

For all you negative detractors who choose to pick on the easiest target on the field while sitting on your fat self-assured arses, there is a huge crop of new referees coming through who are on the NYL panel of referees and many more nipping at their heels.  The career path for Australian referees is now well defined and Australian referees can reach the top quicker than their counterparts overseas.  They are also technically much better than many overseas referees - have you seen some of the lazy refereeing on the European Champions League?

So the next few seasons will see new faces amongst the officials, in fact there are many new faces already this season.  Not that all that will matter to those who will criticise referees, no matter what....

Erm, they have  dropped refs down to NYL - Chris Beath was demoted to NYL this week (which is actually the pannel he is on)

If you want to criticise refs, go for your accreditation and then see how easy it is. www.ccfootballref.com.au will have information on the next course.

There's a culture of bagging referees on the coast even when they're right (admittedly there have been some moments in my refereeing career where players have actually complimented me, so thanks to them, they know who they are) when you swear at an official, get sent off and then think it was a harsh red and that you did nothing wrong there's a serious problem here and that needs to change, I'm sure you'll all blame the referees, when maybe it's an attitude problem for the players that do that?

Agree, but as Capn Gus Bloodbeard said in the last paragraph of his post, the onus is on the FFA to reward these new referees, rather than stick by Shield, Breeze and Williams when they stuff up too often. Shield and Williams are good enough, in my opinion, to stay in the HAL (although the latter may be on his last legs), but Breeze should be dropped in favour of the NYL referees.

I was at Hindmarsh for the NYL AU v CC, and I was quite impressed by the referee. He took a no-shit approach to the players. Of course, whether that works in the HAL is another story, but I still think he handled that game better than Breeze would have.

The NYL referees have been impressive - the game against Perth they very much took a stand on everything, even telling the throwers to stop moving up the field.

what a stupid thread. how about you heroes get out there on a sataday with a whistle and give it a go eh ?

that penalty was obvious eh ? oh was that from your view point sitting on your fat ass on the couch ? did you come to that conclusion from the slow motion replay ??

I dont love the refs, i think they f**k up heeps. but when will you guys realise that people f**k up, players f**k up, managers f**k up it just happens.

drop breeze yer thats a good one, whos gonna take his place ? you ? some untested ref from the state league ?

Mate, what happens to you at work if you f**k up time after time after time?? What happens to you at work if you never improve, never get better??

You get the sack - and so should they.

End of

Someone needs to show some promise and step up to replace them

No need to step up, the standard isn't that great. If they mess it up, give em an NYL game and let the best performed NYL ref take an A-League game. Couldn't be much worse so nothing to loose, and we give NYL refs A-League experience.

you know, while referees are human, they WILL make mistakes.  Every single game.  Fact. (and, while I don't agree with the penalty, I can certainly see a case for one - so I don't think that was as glaring an error as it's being made out to be).

They WILL make fewer mistakes than any player on the field.

If you're comparing our officials with some overseas officials in better comps, then that's an unfair analysis - those comps can get better players because they've got a larger pool to draw from.  Funnily enough, it works the exact same way with referees.  Also, those comps have more money for the players - and they also have more money to employ/develop referees.

Not saying there aren't other issues, but I'd be surprised if our officials are ever up to, say, EPL standard - for the most part, our players certainly aren't.

You mean one of the world's greatest officials who happened to drop the ball on one match? ;D
Not just any match.....

It was still one match, but it did kill his career he would have been given the world cup final if not for that.

You say "Not just any match..." It was only a group stage match, what about the 2nd round when Matteratzi (I think that's the one) was wrongly sent off. Of course who needs facts when we can have a complex about being robbed. ;)

I don't know if he was 'dropped' for a poor performance, Peter Green was meant to referee the Wellington v Sydney game last round, and all of a sudden Beath refereed it. I can only assume Green had to pull out injured or sick at the last minute and Beath was given the opportunity.

Personally, I don't think Williams is that bad...however, FFA must ensure that poor performances are punished, and good performers in the NYL are rewarded by an A-League appointment. There is an A-League referee, Strebre Delovski, who's perfomances this year have been excellent, however he seems to be getting the 'dud' game everyweek, while the likes of Breeze and co. continue to get the top games. His performance in the Melbourne Perth game last weekend was excellent, he let the play flow and used 'down-time' to communicate with the players. He wasn't aiming to be seen out there, as no referee should. If Delovski doesn't get his FIFA badge something must be wrong with the FFA, as complacincy at the top level (Breeze and co.) will only lead to a further divide in the ranks, and as they retire, no one will be able to step up to the mark
