ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

So anyway, while Lyall presided over our growth and success of the early years of the Mariners, he also presided over the stagnation and decline. Clearly all credit to him for the good times and amazing achievements over the early years but we can't farewell him without at least acknowledging the latter years' blunders and failures.

While his tenure has certainly been a success (especially when measured against one simple test: never mind the trophies and the army of supporters - we're still here, five seasons later) it hasn't been without its lumps and bumps like the AFC CL failure, the failure to adequately recruit and develop players, the failure to get the centre of excellence going and the failure to continue to engage with fans and the community, most glaringly typified by what can only be termed the Canberra debacle.

We should obviously wish him well, but we should also hope like hell his term at the A-League is closer in tone to the 2004-8 period than the 2008-10 period at the Mariners.

The recent decline of the Mariners, on and off the field, has had me concerned for some time but there is one irrefutable fact: without the vision, the drive and the ambition of Lyall Gorman there would be no Central Coast Mariners. I have seen some great times, great matches and great players (of which three will be at the World Cup). Thank you Lyall and all the best at the FFA.

So who is funding the Centre of Excellence? Perhaps the mysterious sponsor that remains unnamed. Or perhaps we get two training fields and that's it for the forseeable future.

Dibo's Mariner contact had the money accounted and slated for a 2 1/2 yr build, but I guess that time frame is  gone, along with any recent mention of the (any) contribution from Macabe and Sheffield.
This is what makes Gormans move interesting as to what legacy he leaves or what componet he retains.

Tin foil hats on everyone, its wild conspiracy theory time.

Has anyone noticed the global credit market recently? Would you be borrowing floating rate money right now?

No, me either

I don't think Gorman's exit will affect the CoE. He's sold the idea to the Football Club board and Council and done the glad-handing that needed to be done, while Turnbull and McCabe are still around to do the finance. They're carrying the torch now.

Commercial property is only just getting off its arse after copping a whacking in the GFC. It might yet get another whacking if the EU keeps getting belted over the debt crisis. Borrowings are going to get pretty expensive all over again if the Eurozone doesn't settle down. The UK is still way down too - where do you think McCabe's money is coming from?

OK but McCabe it was said had so many billions that the COE was petty cash almost ... history has shown that McCabe does not appear to be the backer he was said to be...and no inside info here just what was issued by the club ... the COE is in some kinda trust ... meaning McCabe could be sitting in very influential position and may want brought out at a premium ... it all seems very messy to me ... I have seen these things tho my practise and some folk can play very hard ball .... and I wonder if in McCabe we dont have a person who got in for a million dollars and a promise ... and is hard to get rid of...

TBH the COE is why I started to follow the Mariners
