ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Get the Poms on the field!

What has happened to the Mariners?? Their brand of football of late has been.... well shite to say the least. Whats all this punt the long ball up the field and let Matty Simon do the rest?? We can't even do that properly. Its getting predictable Lawrie! In fact its embarrassing!

Is it me or do we play a better brand of football with the likes of McGlinchy, Travis and Crowell on the park? At least they knock it around. Look at the difference McGlinchy made when he came on at the weekend. Yeah he missed a couple of chances but at least we looked liked scoring.

The best game I have ever seen the Mariners play was the 3-0 home demolition of the Gold Coast and all the Pom's were on the field....no coincidence me thinks.

I was generalising for the antipodeans......under normal circumstances we stand alone and I realise McGlinchey is a token Kiwi!

Doig is a Pom and he was long balling all night ...But I take your point if you are talking about Travis and weeMac... although I did hear that weeMac took a knock and could not get through a entire game .. Travis well there is another story all by itself is he sulking, really hurt or won't sign a contract.. or homesick... maybe all of these...

But with our best on the park and playing to our best I honestly believe we can win the grand final...

This IMO is the most frustrating thing about this season, on the day I truely believe we are capable of beating any team in the competition! It;s just never the right day!

. the wee-man made a huge difference ... his running and positioning were great ... he transformed the side

. but its not as simple as that. he was allowed to play like that because the midfield 'stood-up'. we have been asking to see a bit more heart from the boys and i think we got that later in the game

. it was actually very similar to our first round meeting i thought (well at least the last 1/2 hour or whatever it was):

. gcu became super whiney
. we muscled up
. they tried the same
. it gave us space to play the way we wanted to
. we attacked as they continually concerned themselves with things other than the ball

. that is what has been missing for the last couple of months ... oh yeah, we still need to put the ball in the net - but at least it looked like we were going to

Bit of a no brainer that we look better when our creative mids are on and doing there job well really.  But when they are doing well the problem has been no one being able to stick it the bloody net - and then this problem has to be fair also began alternating with creative midfielders not doing there job well...

When the whole team has actually fired at the same time...
We have demolished even the best sides in the comp in MV.

As Andre says... nothing more frustrating than unrealised potential.
But as a coach you have to try and respond to the results and the form being showed by players. The only player who has not been dropped when his form has merited it imo is Simon, and even then I can understand why he's been kept in.

Simon and Pedj are two players I believe are underperforming, although I thought Simon improved last week. Still not top notch, but he didn't fall over as often, and had a bit more mongrel in him, compared to recent weeks. He could be coming good.
Pedj is a good defender, but his passing is atrocious. I'm wondering what is giving him the spot ahead of Crowell. Crowell has played competently in all the games he has played.

Poms are shite at futbol too, they are the same old long ball style players.

We need some ethniks to spice the team up with flair!!!  :eek:verhead:

Another irrelevant 'can confirm' or 'piss up' post from you and I'm just deleting it.

This seems a little weird to respond too...
Given we are talking british isles...
Doig and Weemac are already playing...
So I assume we are talking Huke, Travis and Crowell?
So our midfield would be -

Travis, Huke, Crowell, Weemac

Not at all convinced that this is our best midfield... and without a natural wide player amongst them... not at all sure why anyone else is either?

My point is our creativity...... non existent against Gold Coast. In fact its been non existent for a while. WeeMac has been out and only just come back granted. No Travis and no Crowell. But its no secret we have played better as a team with them on the park. McKinna only seems to have one game plan.....route one....why?
