Ivan Necevski played a full game and kept a clean sheet, David D'Appuzo played until the 62nd minute while Adrian Vlastelica and Luke Turnbull were unused substitutes for Apia Leichhardt against Damian Mori's Adelaide City. The game finished 1-0 at Adelaide City Park and APIA Leichhardt progress to the next round of the PS4 NPL Finals.

Former Capital Draft trialists Josh Gulevski and Jordan Tsekeni played full games while another former Capital Draft Trialist in Jeremy Habtemariam came off the bench in the 70th minute for Canberra Olympic. Daniel McBreen scored twice, had assist and played a full game for the Edgeworth Eagles with former Mariners Academy player Dylan Holz also playing a full game. The game finished 1-4 to Edgeworth at Deakin Park in Canberra.

After watching the two matches yesterday here some of my thoughts:
Adelaide City vs APIA Leichhardt Tigers
David D'Appuzo bossed the middle of the park for APIA and was the link between Apia's attack and defence, once he went off Adelaide City had much more success going forward and APIA started to turn it over more. Ivan Necevski wasn't called into to action too often but made two massive saves, first to stop Adelaide City from going ahead just before half time and second to deny and excellently taken free kick by Adelaide City to ensure that Apia didn't have to go into extra time. Whoever is APIA's goalkeeping coach is we should bring in, they know how to teach someone how to set a wall. Themba Muata-Marlow looks more than capable of playing A-League and was my man of the match, has the poise and composure of Trent Sainsbury, is quick to boot and looks to have just enough technical skills to play Okonball. If one of Baro, Rowles, Golec or Ascroft goes down he would be a good injury replacement. Damian Mori's Adelaide City looked frustrated and disjointed, constantly missing simple passes though Kamara and former Jet Joel Allright were the exception to this. Both provided great drive at the APIA defense and Kamara would have scored if not for a fantastic save from Ivan Necevski. APIA deserved to go through and Adelaide City were lucky it wasn't more.

Edgeworth were a class above Canberra Olympic but struggled to pull away from them at times, at the start of the match it seemed like it would be a goal fest for Edgeworth but they slowly got pulled back until about the 60th minute mark. The pace and technical skills of this game didn't really match up to Adelaide CIty and APIA so I expect Edgeworth may struggle against the Brisbane Strikers. Daniel Mcbreen did terrifically and was by the far the most skillful player on the pitch, nearly all of Edgeworth's attacks went through him and his strikes were superb. Kieran Sanders was my man of the match though, he had terrific one touch passing, electric pace, read all of McBreen's thoughts ahead of time and was a constant danger. Former CCMA player Dylan Holz did well for the Eagles, he was tireless throughout however, he lacked the passing range to do real damage to Canberra Olympic. Our three former trialists weren't up to the standard of Edgeworth and from this match alone it's difficult to see how they were considered for an A-League spot, Habtermariam especially. Edgeworth look likely to be hosting Brisbane Strikers next week and will be a good test for Daniel McBreen and company.

Olympic FC are one of three clubs to have successfully won the double (Premiers/Champions) in Queensland (2013), however 2017 saw them miss out on finals for a second consecutive season, falling short by one point. In a huge boost, the club has appointed former Central Coast Mariners Academy coach Ben Cahn for 2018.

Among other signings, Kieran Sanders has been added to the mix making Olympic his third club in as many seasons. Sanders is no newcomer to Queensland, having played an integral part in Cairns FC’s 2016 which ended in a 3-2 loss to Redlands in the grand final. He arrives from Northern NSW NPL outfit and 2017 premiers Edgeworth Eagles where he managed 4 goals in 19 appearances.

Olympic have played just the one friendly against Broadbeach United (GCPL) which resulted in a 4-2 victory. They travel north to Mackay to take on the Magpies Crusaders on February 3rd.
