FINALS - game 1 - CCM v ROAR

to start this topic i would like to draw reference from the ANZ championship 2010 (netball for those who dont have WAGs)

NSW swifts went undefeated all season and were raging hot favorites to take home the trophy... LOST EVERY GAME in the finals, didnt even qualify for the grand final. the comp was won by the Adelaide thunderbirds who slowly built momentum during the season and peaked right at the finals...

the precedent has been set, can you imaging how pissed people will be when we beat the team that has been described as the best a-league team yet? how pissed are ffa gunna be when we qualify to host the grandfinal and they miss out on a packed out suncorp!

:tv:

3-1 mariners, simon perez and kwas... they score a random fluky midfielder goal

It would be great to see the 7 selected in the PFA team defeated by a team which could manage only one.. Come on... ZWAANSWIJK for one deserved to be there!

2-0 or 3-1 win in Gosford.

Defend like we've never defended before up there (a la Inter away to Barca last season in the semi's of the European Cup).

Win the tie 2-1 or 3-2 on aggregate.

Burn down FFA headquarters when they transfer the game to Brisbane anyway.

Good to have you back serious :)

Would be great to smash them but to be fair they've got an excellent team and they're not going to be easy to beat. Finals will fire them up especially after they've had some ordinary games by their standards lately. Further, we've looked a little shakey at the back in some of our recent games (and I could go on to talk about the extenuating circumstances involved but I won't) and we will not be able to afford any lapses in defensive concentration against Roar.

I'm still going to back us for the win but that's more due to passion than reasoned judgement. 2-1 win to Mariners to end the history making unbeaten record. :pirashoot:

Play a 6-4-0 formation serious?

Heh - it's really dependent on what happens in the first leg. Would be a bit silly if we needed a goal. ;)

Bex - the reason I bring that particular tie up is that it's quite similar to the one we're about to face. The pragmatic hard-workers against the tiki-taka masters, but on an A-League scale. No-one expected Inter to do anything in the first leg in Milan, but they walloped Barca 3-1 - this let José do his thing in Barcelona.

Now I'm not saying that we're as well organised defensively as Inter were last season, but positively thumping Brisbane in the first leg might be the best chance we have _in terms of the overall tie_.

It's going to be damn intriuging either way - I love, love, _LOVE_ two legged ties.

Didn't we try soemthing like that in the first BT match and got smashed?
Why not try 2-3-5? :piralaugh:

W-M for the win. :p

Two-legged contests are entirely different, which is why I love them so much. And obviously, the context of the second leg is entirely dependent on what happens on Saturday.

Bernie is our X factor, Mattys fitness aside he is a workhorse and Brisbane know what to expect. I think we've been a different team going forward the last couple of weeks with Bernie,Muut and Perez playing a faster uptempo attacking style. If we go at them early we will put them on the back foot, they are coming here to score and I think they will but I think we are the best chance to roll them this week more than ever.

One point to make is we have never lost a two legged final in the history of the AL. We have beaten the jets in both games and i can feel this contining. Winning the grand final however if not at home becasue ffa move us maybe a big ask. Might have to speak to a greater power for help.

Sorry to disappoint you Nero, but we lost the last 2-leg final we played, and against the Roar. 2008/09 we lost zip-2 at home, and 1-2 away.

Completely forgot about that game. I think the loss of Jedi and not winning a game for like 9months made me forget those games. May we never go down that line again.

Arnie has a real headache for the next two games.

Does he revert to the standard starting line-up or has Bernie/Duke impressed enough to get a start?

I think it`s safe to say the back four pick themself.
Griffith comes back after his rest.(Hutcho to fill one bench spot)

Glinch & Olly are safe bets.

Perez/Amini ...Perez will start (Amini takes No.2 bench spot)

Up front ...Matty is back in (as long as he is fit)

The big problem now is does he:-
a)start McBreen who played well against GC but shit against the Jets
b)start Kwassie, who hasn`t had much field time lately, but has also not played up to standard recntly
c)Start Bernie who debuted well & scored a cracker & continued to play well (but not outstanding)against the Jets
d)Start Duke who also had a very good debut

It looks like Bernie has the wood on Duke at the moment so d) looks unlikely.

On form I would go for broke & start Bernie.

The next problem is who goes on the bench?

McBreen has had the nod over Kwassie for the starting spot for the last month but Kwassie makes more impact than McBreen when he comes off the bench.

I would take a gamble & give it to Kwassie in the hope that Kwassaldhino shows up.

It`ll be tough on those that miss out but that`s why they pay Arnie the big Bucks!
