del piero was a bit too old to have an impact imo...

You badmouthing Del Piero??

*shakes fist*

+1, don't dis the great one
He barely had an impact last time around. 4 years on, you still want him?
How much did he play last World Cup? My only memory was that extra time, unreal top corner strike...that warrants him a spot?

And tbh I think the world of football, should be collectively mourning the finality of the Legend of Ronaldinho.
He is my greatest overall disappointment on the world scene, however this is shortlived as i have only experienced 3 world cups  (1998, 2002, 2006).

hoping Messi doesnt fall into same spiral...but I'm already writing off this world cup thanks to Maradonna. Thank God, Messi has another 2 chances

Diego Milito is in the squad
his brother is not.

also

FW Sergio Agero - Atltico Madrid
FW Gonzalo Higuan - Real Madrid
FW Lionel Messi - Barcelona
FW Diego Milito - Internazionale
FW Martn Palermo - Boca Juniors
FW Carlos Tvez - Manchester City

Just play them in the same team
somehow

Got that wrong then didn't I. Dunno why I thought Diego wasn't :S

Kareem, he did actually have a pretty decent world cup last time, and scored the winner(well, the 2nd in extra time) against Germany to put Italy into the final(Del Piero that is)

Was just going over the draw and discovered this.....

I will be in Paris on the 26th June - if indeed the much hoped for England/Australia game comes to fruition I will get to watch it with thousands upon thousands of Frogs who will be hyper for two reasons:

i). They'll be in full ABE (Anyone But England) mode.

ii). The first game that night, if results go as they should, is _their_ knockout game against possibly Nigeria or Mexico.

Not to mention.....

Yes James, Pim will somehow navigate out of a group containing Germany and Serbia will he?

Engerlund juggernaut will in full flow by then, unstoppable by anyone (unless they pass the ball and take us to penalties of course)

Apparently, Michael Ballack is going to miss the World Cup after the injury he suffered from the Cup final last weekend.

And now one of the contenders for his position.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/world_cup_2010/8702311.stm

Germany's squad down to 25 before final culling.

It's confirmed - Trsch is out as well.
so it is just Schweinsteiger and Khedira as defensive midfielders as Jogi doesn't want to nominate other players til June 1st...

Schweinsteiger.... defensive midfielder

...............always thought he was a winger??

he used to play as a winger but since Ribery and Robben joined Bayern he is playing as a defensive midfielder.
Imo he is doing better in that position as on the wing

Ghana's Essien is also out for the World Cup

ACCRA, Ghana Ghana midfielder Michael Essien will miss the World Cup after failing to recover from a knee injury.

Essien injured a hamstring while playing for Chelsea against APOEL Nicosia in the European Champions League on Dec. 8.

He returned to play the second half for Ghana against Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations of Jan. 15, then injured his right knee two days later during training. He has not played since.

"An evaluation by a combined team of medical experts from the Ghana Football Association and Chelsea Football Club revealed that Essien will not make full recovery until the end of July," the association said Thursday on its website.

Ghana opens the World Cup on June 13 against Serbia, then plays Australia on June 18 and Germany on June 23.

Essien helped Ghana reached the second round of the 2006 World Cup in its first appearance at the tournament.

See *that* one helps us. Now we just need Nemanja Vidic or some of his teammates to fall down a well or something.

As Montgomery Burns would say...there'd have to be 11 untimely tragedies in each of the other three teams for us to have a real show of going through. One untimely tragedy is possible...even two or three...but 11 untimely tragdies in each time? I'd like to see that!

Having made that Simpsons-related joke...I am quietly confident that we can somehow get through, but NOT if Craig Moore plays. He was rubbish the other night and how much better did we look when younger faster guys came on?
