So where's the lie? Shaun's post sounded like Lawrie was a bit vague, and Shaun failed to pick up on it and didn't set clear boundaries in place (though I think even having any flag waving is just unacceptable at that game)

I`ve known Lawrie longer than most on here.
What he did just wasn`t right. It was disrespectful to us as fans and to our club.
He double crossed Shaun who has copped heaps on here, including from me.
If he apologises (in the same sincere manner that Justin did) I would forgive him and move on.
But,in my view he is slowly eroding all the great work he did here and losing friends at the same time...

I think we would have had more respect in the first place than to do something like this, and I sincerely hope no-one from this club is stupid enough to retaliate at their stadium as it would put us back to their level.
Both of them should have been removed from the stadium and the banner should have been confiscated.
When you are invited into a colleagues lounge room you don`t shit on the furniture.
It also looks to me that a lot of people were hurt by it...

Geeze this really is a hot topic! I think it's *good* the club is doing marketing experiments to pump up the fervour for derbies without spending dosh. Good to experiment, review the numbers once we get there to see if it made a difference.

Also think the Jets are all rats, so nothing unexpected there. Shaun does look a bit dumb not realising he'd get slammed. Lawrie got an opportunity and made the absolute most of it. Doubt the favour will be so generously returned.

Still, not enraged about it like some for whatever reason. I don't feel disrespected or outraged, feels like a big deal over a relatively small meme. Of course each to their own.

What it HAS done is make me want to absolutely crush the scum, cause it reminded me how shit they are top to bottom. FTS, move along.

Wasn’t my words. I’d have said he ‘deceived’ conned or pulled a swifty. But I guess you can still call it a lie by omission.

Anyway this is not my hill. So I’m getting off it and will be back when I find a more attractive one to die on.

Lawrie retains a lot of credibility here and can be forgiven for almost anything, not because he was our first coach and is a good bloke but because without him we would not have a club.

He had been negotiating to form a club here before the A-League was mentioned. He, Alex Tobin and Ian Ferguson brought the core of Northern Spirit here to form the basis of our first team.

Like Jimmy, I despise the Jets, but never Lawrie.

For those that are interested in his story, Adrian Deans has written a great biography of him. He has also written a great ripping yarn football novel, "Mr Cleansheets". I recommend both.

Change the teams in his history to Liverpool & everton or arsenal & tottenham etc etc no matter how and you'd be the one being destroyed for what you are writing here. If football is your religion then what has been done here isv tantamount to having the coxk crow thrice.

My knowledge of English football history isn't perfect.
But I don't think the people that helped create those clubs and be an integral part for so long ever went on to be their rivals CEOs.

My last thoughts on the “pullover debacle”
Don’t get me wrong, I reckon Laurie Mc was fkn rorted by this club too BUT at any point in the lead up to probably the biggest night in recent CCM history , did Laurie say to Shaun “ me and the single most hated prick to ever set foot on the blue tongue pitch are going too unfurl a bay wide pullover of the Jests logo while Fox Football are doing their pre game blather , contrary to what we discussed on the phone and via email at any point recently “ ...what’s that ! No Laurie didn’t , well then that to me, as taught by my pop and uncles, is a f**king lie ...I rest my case your honor and learned colleagues

Both clubs are trying to bring back the agro the derby used to have and quite frankly needs for it to be successful. Storm in a tea cup.

For that to work, you have to let go of what Laurie was to this club though... That 'agro' won't entirely return with Laurie being all matesy with the supporter-base... Not to mention that he's clearly willing to take every opportunity he's given, to take advantage of us - I'm afraid you're as blinded by him as Shaun at this point.
He's a scummer now, sure he's just doing his job, but his job is to be a Scummer...

I am, however, not denying anyone’s feeling of being upset. I can see the level of frustration and am confused why I am not feeling it as well.

This is exactly the concern though - it SHOULD be pissing you off, the fact that is doesn't means that your emotional investment with the club is less than it could be, ideally... Not that you'll leave, but the step from fan to not, is much longer if you're invested enough to get angry about this stuff, than if you go 'meh' and move on.

Edit: I should probably clarify that I'm not accusing you of not caring, I'm trying to say that I think the lethargy you're feeling is wide-spread and a sign of the trouble that the club is facing - trouble that only deepens every time something stupid like this happens.

Let's not forget.
Lawrie didn't defect or snake us.
We told him he wasn't needed.
He needed a job, so he found it elsewhere.
He's doing his job up there like anyone else would do their job for their employer.

I despise the Jets. But not Lawrie.

Nobody's blaming him for taking another job, that's not where the problem is...

I have no problem with him trying to build up the rivalry again, great, but he can't both be a hero and a bad guy for the club... For the rivalry to work, you guys have to stop thinking of him as anything other than a scummer, at least until he leaves that life behind one day. But the way he is being treated right now, just allows him way too much access and creates more dissent internally here, rather than focusing the ire on the club that he represents.

Honestly, I think people are just trying to find something to be outraged about. We had a somewhat successful cup run, decent pre-season, we’re starting to look like we have the makings of a half-decent squad and we haven’t really had anything to complain about for the last couple of months. The murderous rage (particularly directed towards Shaun) displayed by some on here has been over the top. Am I stoked with the pullover going up? No. Am I screaming for heads to roll or to blacklist other clubs’ CEOs from our club? Nup. Is this all a storm in a teacup? Yep.

Honestly, the fact that we’re still talking about it means it’s achieved exactly what it was meant to - now it’s time to start channeling that energy where it belongs, in the form of a tidy little “f**k the jets and the FFA” singalong in just over a week.

Except, it's meant to convert into ticket sales eventually yeah? That was the point about the lethargy, it won't convert to ticket sales off of a lethargic response - if people go "pfft good one, ha!" and move on, they'll have forgotten about it in a minute, if people go "Christ, another stuff up by the club" they're likely to eventually stop paying for tickets because, why should they keep supporting a club which continuously proves that it doesn't have its shit in order?
If people get fired up and go "THAT'S A f**kING OUTRAGE" they're invested and more likely to keep paying yeah? Bearing in mind that the people the club is trying to reach aren't most of the ones on this forum.
But if people on here stop caring it's not great... Think back to when the Jesters were planning to show up at our Finals runs to root against us, and the response from people here. Not that it angered people, but there was definitely an opinion on it, to me at least, that was a lot less galling than this shit.

He plays people. All matey matey and then happy to screw you when you look away. As I stated earlier, I have always thought very highly of Lawrie, but his actions are getting too consistently 'not something friends do' for me to trust him again. He's a scummer now.

I don’t think those two positions are mutually exclusive Nebbake. I don’t feel emotionally detached at all for the club. But I’m not really outraged either. I don’t like it. Of course Lawrie has taken advantage. Each to their own, but to me it’s much more the hey Lawrie come on in, and he's gone and eaten the rest of my cookies that I was planning on having later. As opposed to the shagging my wife and stealing my dog kind of taking advantage.

It has genuinely reminded me how much I want to beat the scum. Now maybe some people always burn hot, but mine always seems to fade a little with an off season... so each year it takes a bit of banter or reading a few scummer posts or just seeing Griffiths face etc, for my fire to get kindled again.

Also i think there’s an opportunity here for our active. If I was Shaun I’d be willing to do whatever I could to help them return the favour and I’d be trying to think of a next level prank to pull off at their expense. Knowing they can’t really cry foul.

Yeah i don’t l know. I hated what he did with Millar, but I just think Lawrie plays hard for whatever team he’s on. I can accept that without liking it. If Shaun had stolen a jets youth prodigy, I’d be bloody cheering,
