Disgrace

perhaps we can turn this thread into showing how disgraceful some of the Newcastle Jets fans are.
re: the incident on the sideline where Hutcho stopped to look at the Squadrunts. Hutchinson was hit by a 50 cent coin! how gutless and disgraceful is that!?

check out this photo.
Note the guy in the white shirt with his arm raised about to peg something.

I dont care what anyone says.. 16 and the other bays down there are always good.. I think the volume of the supporters in the stands does suffer by the fact that there are a lot of families in the stands.. You see them all around you... I did notice the victory fans chanting across the pitch at each other on Friday night. I dont know that it is possible for you guys to try the same thing with 15 and 16... would work well, especially if the stands can get involved and do the same... East with 16 and West with 15... Dont know that it will happen, would be great if it could...
  Keep up the work Marinators....
There are plenty in the stands that cheer with you...

I thought you sounded oK last night.  But in Bay 6, it was like being in the morgue.  Dead quiet.  You try to get them to chant and they think you are stupid, you try to get them to bring the boys home and lift them.  THEY DON'T GET IT.

You call them emo's I call it the creche.  Start from the front & fill up the bay.  Emo's wont sit behind a standing crowd & eventally they will leave & sit elsewhere.  Otherwise find something to include them and organise them from the front.  A large group yelling stand up may get a response.  NOT rocket science

As for chants, I think we need to work out 2 or 3 core chants and make sure that everyone knows the words to them off by heart. Next weekend is the perfect time to trial it out before we unleash it in the semis. Maybe a couple of us Marinators could work out what songs we'll stick with, print out the lyrics and hand them round the bay next weekend?

The Newcastle chant was rather simple and effective, 'Newcastle' and every supporter was able to join in the chant without thinking too hard about it. We could also would have the same volume and presence with 'Mariners' or 'Central Coast' chant, especially when the boys are under pressure or worse, behind.

No, I'm not saying to do it all game or all chants have to be simplistic. But something that is easily recognised by the novice supporter means most (even families) would drop their reservations and likely join in. This may also lead to a larger participation with other chants. Not every Mariner supporter know's the Marinators chants and thus are unable to participate....

Again as I said earlier, several different chants all going at once becomes an undecipherable noise. In the end though, it's about supporting the Mariners and giving them the drive to win.  I'm all for anything that works in helping  them achieve it!

I'd like to clarify a few things about the Squadron, as I sat above them in Bay 53 last night.

1. The big banner needs to go. They should not be allowed to hang a banner of that size in OUR stadium, nor should we be allowed to in any other stadium. Flags, handheld banners, fine. Taping a 20ft banner to the side of our stadium is a no-no and I'm disgusted with management for allowing it.

2. They should be banned from Bluetongue, pure and simple. The amount of beer, cups and other objections flung in to the air is nothing short of a disgrace. The predictable response will no doubt be "don't like the fire get out of the kitchen"... get a clue kids, this is Australia. Leave the filthy European football crowd behaviour where it belongs - at Marathon.

3. The person who threw the coin at Hutcho, and ANYONE else who threw an object onto the field should be BANNED from ALL future A-League games, ANYWHERE, EVER again. The security guards and police who sat and did nothing about it should have their positions reviewed.

4. Their chants are nothing to be jealous of. Apart from "Sasha's a girl's name" (which, mind you, just shows how upset they are they don't have him), all of their chants from memory were nicked from one of the following:
- Manchester United
- St George Illawarra Dragons
- Newcastle Knights

5. They let off confetti. Awesome idea... if it's in your team colours LOL. The confetti they let off was pink, purple, green and red. WTF? Our yellow streamers... f*ckin awesome!

6. If I see the Australian flag enter Bluetongue Stadium with Newcastle Jets written across the union jack, I will personally see to the Scum fan who dared deface the flag of our great nation.

The game itself we couldn't help, the boys simply lacked fire in the second 45, and I have no complaints about the loss. But the above are things that everyone should know about last night.

You mean the one they pilfered directly from the Knights?  :vhappy:

Exactly, their thiefdom of chants is not solely confined to those three clubs I mentioned. We seem to have this unique ability with chants though... what other team do you know has Yellow Football Team? What other team can?

Give us something to cheer along with, we need you guys to lead. Everyone is looking to you to do something, to start something and to continue something.

In the sober light of day I can see a valid point in your post, and i think you share a dream with many marinators that they can one day lead the entire stadium in song.

I enjoy standing with the marinators and getting some chants going. For various reasons i have also, on the odd occasion, sat in the stands and seen it from the other perspective. From the upper western tier i can hear the marinators, and when i recognise a chant i always want to join in.

I have heard people from other areas follow the marinators' lead and join in a chant. This gives me hope that there are people out there who want to join in. Also it shows that the volume from bay 16 can be adequate to recognise the chants if you know them.

So far the only chants i have heard start in the bay and begin to catch on elsewhere are "Mariners, cla-cla-clap," (AKA 3-clap) and "Clap, clap, cla-cla-clap, cla-cla-cla-clap, Mariners" (AKA 9-clap). This proves two points:
1) People in other areas are willing to join in with a chant that they recognise
2) People in other areas don't know many of the chants.

One option is to persist with leading the crowd in "3-clap" and "9-clap". But i can't imagine many of the marinators enjoying being assigned that job, I'm sure they'd rather sing football songs for their own enjoyment.

The real solution is to be actively involved in finding a way that people around the stadium can learn simple chants like "come on you yellow," "we all follow a yellow football team," "Yellow Army," or "Maa-riners, maa-rin-ers" (the Liverpool one). Here are some suggestions:
- If some people in the stands who know these songs join in, it may help others around them to pick them up
- Some Marinators could record and post some audio on the net so people who want to learn a chant can track down a recording (lyrics alone obviously don't work because we already have that)

So one of those is a suggestion for Marinators, and the other is something others can do to help. All the songs mentioned above get sung at every game, but only "3-clap" and "9-clap" are catching on. So I don't think the problem is just that the marinators need to sing more than they already do.

Im with you cheermore. Marinators - if your not there to lead the pack then wtf I say?
Obviously some of these guys can't take criticism and get their gebies by slagging off on the net. Marinators should not take all the flack for their failure to lead though, there were at least 15000 central coasties not saying f__king boo either except to boo off James Holland as he left the ground. Actually the most noise I heard out of fans was when kwasnik had a bloodied tampon the size of banana pulled out of his nose. The novacastrians one the battle of the voice and coast residents should be ashamed of their lack of spirit.

I think Floss raises a valid point here. If I could elaborate a bit further, what your dealing with here folks is a rugby league area. Don't quote me statistics about participation, I'm telling you that rugby league has been the sport that people have followed on the Coast for a century! The Mariners have been around for 3 years.

There is no tradition of singing or chanting a league games and people just aren't used to it. The examples that Floss give are the only chants you hear at a league game. People know it, are used to it and are comfortable doing it. It seems to me that the hard core Marinators have roots in England where chanting and singing are sencond nature.

The point of this post is not to expect miracles too soon. If the Marinators want to enjoy themselves at the game and do their thing, well, it's your parogative. If on the other hand, you want the stadium to join you, then you have to dumb it down a bit. Remeber who your audience is... essentially a league crowd that has only been attending football matches for 3 years (most even less than that).

This issue has really struck a chord with me and I will be at the general meeting to raise it. Is their an offical agenda where I can have this added to?

Agree. Whole crowd is not going to join in on fancy chants.

We need the entire bay joining in and singing so loud everyone hears them anyway.
