Travis is always subbed off early, so the chances of him scoring a late winner are pretty slim. Fingers crossed though.

I wonder if he is getting annoyed at being subbed? He does start to get quiet late in the second half though.

Travis's workrate is pretty high and i think he's not fully match fit..not sure how many games he has started for us but it's not that many. Don't think we'll lose this one but may draw....

Yeah it is a very good argument for 4321 isn't it.
Only that when you beat a team 3 zip the previous week, as a coach
your not usually inclined to go changing your starting 11.

Good line up and hard to disagree with.Pedj has been one of our best players so far and doesn't deserve to be dropped, however Crowell looks good and needs game time to get match fit.And Huke back again..... I'm not a big fan of the lone striker, especially with Matty as he does so much work but based on form this is probably the best 11 right now.

Could always go down the Melbourne v2 route and play four defenders, three central defensive midfielders, one attacking midfielder and two strikers. ;)

More likely for us it would be two (very free-ranging) attacking midfielders and one striker in what's almost a 4-3-3. Everyone's got to defend from the front and the wide defenders have to come through and provide options.

Hutch is still a fundamentally defensive player. This is no great criticism of him, but I don't see him as a straight-out attacking player on the left. With a tight core in the middle, one of the three can always switch up to be in a more attacking position.

When we come down to backs against the wall stuff we've essentially got a tight 7 that closes down to our penalty area. Keep the opposition high and wide and force them to shoot from miles away. When we break, find our zippy options wide and get players into position to support.

It's basically the ultra-defensive, counterattacking setup Melbourne has played with when they've played well (for reference, in season 2 it would have been Archie and Fred in the wide roles, with Archie slightly higher and Fred more withdrawn). And it can generate lots of goals - A-League defences are f**king rubbish against good counterattacking football and broken play generally.

For the bench I'd have Kwasnik over D'Appuzzo any day of the week too.

      pedj   crowell  hutch

Reckon will be same starting side as last week.

We won 3-0 away and unless anyone is injured, I doubt we will change it.

Also have a core nucleus of scum haters in the side which you need in a derby.

(As the form book goes out of the window)

1-0 will do me very nicely here

Even why not give Nicky Travis a run as a striker? He has been put on the website as a striker and looks good when it comes to finishing eg, his goal against gold coast and the disallowed wellington goal, and both were well finished. Considering the lack of goals we have had besides the GCU and Roar games, it is worth a try

Did you guys see him on Fox FC last night? They had a little peice on him and Manny Musc**t. They interviewed Hutch after the game against Portugal and asked what he thought? He said " I thought they looked shorter in real life".............Jeez I love that guy!

The lack of a 2nd regular goal scorer worries me. But boogs, wilko, doig,  heff, pedj, crowell, hutch, travis, wee mac, kwasnik, and d-mac all look capable of the odd goal.

1-0 to us.

Yeah saw that. Also loved...
(In reference to the Portugal game experience)
"Yeah greatest football moment ever probably... except if the Mariners win the grandfinal" THATS WHAT YA WANT!

Also did you see the Mariners TV interview after the Roar match?
How he talks about running back to defend when they were  four nil down, and finding himself just smiling like a kid in a candy store because he's got Deco next to him and Nani just ran past...

Love it.

. this i see as a beautiful thing. far too many times in the past (if we are chasing a game) we have had 4 or 5 pushing their defensive line hungry for a goal and it just doesn't work that way ... you either need the perfect through ball (hard to do from 40 metres) or you are relying on a pin-point cross :ashamed:

. travis and the wee-man already know how to position themselves but nicky is usually spent by the time we reach the critical juncture, so i don't think it hurts. this is how these guys are - and will continue to - score goals ... although perhaps if hutch was a little more attack minded he would have got a second when everything opened up for him a second time last week. i think that his thought processes had slowed enough by then that when he thought 'omg i can't believe they did it again' the opportunity was lost :piralaugh:

Spotted weemac, Travis and Huke about 5pm walking from terrigal beach. They did not look that comfortable in the heat. I hope it is cold at scumcastle.
