Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Coaching Opportunities in NSW

Nearly 2 years on I am still looking for coaching vacancies... I have had little help from Football NSW and other federations. The main question I'm asking them is "Are my FAW (Football Association of Wales) qualifications valid in Australia?" many of them just either choose to not answer this or clearly misread what I am asking and point me towards coaching qualifications with the FFA.

Do anyone know from experience do they accept qualifications from abroad to work in football? I have found a few jobs in the Sydney and Canberra areas working in academy club set ups.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
If you want a paid coaching gig, FNSW has an ad board for positions available.

Assuming you've got FAW qualifications that are at least C-Licence level, you'll need to get the equivalency recognised. To coach in NSW, the best person to talk to about that would be FNSW Coach Education Manager Oscar Gonzalez on 8814 4429 or oscarg@footballnsw.com.au. He will at least know what the next step is.

If your quals are below C-Licence level, you'll need to do a course here.

TBH though, no coaching gigs pay much unless you're willing to blow smoke up the arses of credulous parents in an academy.

"Oh sure, if you just pay up for this extra session and that extra bit and this extra bob, we can probably squeeze him into the travelling group for a trip to Barcelona where they'll trial under the eyes of these great scouts; they'll be one good session away from being signed up to study at La Masia..."

In the more reputable pathway programs that actually do some football development rather than spinning stories and padding bank accounts, you're generally looking at <$5k for a season.

Thanks for taking the time to give me this info... I will ping him an email to ask about the qualifications. I can assure you football isn't all sunshine and rainbows in England either, working in pre-academies and development centres here is pretty much having to BS about children's progress to either keep the income from their parents or to be able to keep participation numbers high enough to be able to apply for funding each year. However, I am more so looking for a lifestyle change and to be able to experience coaching in a different country. I know its not what many people "expect" when they see what goes in to a football club, but I love seeing the one player make it to the next stage on the pathway to reaching the very distant dream of being pro and having the satisfaction knowing you may have played a part in that child's life.

Working in Australia is something I have always wanted to do, sitting at home on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday getting up sometimes as early as 6am just to watch the A-League... now my family think I'm mad... but seeing some of the stadiums these teams play in, it just makes me dream of working there one day! If it turns out that its not possible due to my qualifications or just the fact the pay isn't enough for me to move it would be a killer, but a understandable one. If I could work in a Community Section of a football club (as I do now) that would be the ultimate achievement for me as I am a lot more towards development and using football as a tool to help get kids active, wether that be in mainstream sessions or in a disability sports program (which I must admit is one of my favourite sessions to work in). But at the end of the day its all well and good dreaming of it but it needs to be viable and I hope it is.

But again, thanks in advance for any help anyone gives me (Positive or Negative its all appreciated)

Thanks.

I've had some replies from the contacts provided (thanks for those). I've been told that all the coaching badges I have currently will require a validation check in Australia and will cost $99 per certificate... so after I have had them all checked and possibly not even be validated I could be over $300 out of pocket. Does seem a little odd to be charged to check if the FFA will allow me to use my qualifications, pay a fee for it and potentially not been allowed to use them after.

I feel like its crashing and burning at the moment... has anyone come across people who have moved to Australia with Welsh FA quals? Thanks.

Not with Welsh, but with other Associations' quals. That's the process they had to go through.

Soccer 5s at Tuggerah run the CCFA (Central Coast Football Academy) Program. I'm sure they aren't as strict with FFA coaching qualification requirements. If you got a gig with them they might even pay the FFA re-certification costs for you?

I think Soccer 5's (best facility in Australia) is owned by some Scottish businessmen. So they might be happy to help a fellow Celt.
