Troisi is a touch of class ..............wonder if he would come for a year...........don't think so............but he might.

See SBS link below

Troisi keeps his focus as storm clouds gather

http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/socceroos/troisi-keeps-his-focus-as-storm-clouds-gather-108564/

And that was a familiar feeling for the 19 year-old Adelaide-born talent, after limited chances and even fewer highlights on Tyneside this season.

"Obviously Newcastle are going through a bit of a tough patch at the moment so it has been a bit hard for me to get in the squad," Troisi said.

"Hopefully things change for the better in the next few weeks and ease up a bit."

Away from the bear pit of north-east England, where Keegan is yet to have a win in charge of the Magpies since returning in January, Troisi is relishing the chance to stake his claim for Australia's World Cup qualifier against China next week.

Troisi is one of a handful of European players - most notably Harry Kewell - who will join an A-League squad in taking on Singapore in the National Stadium.

Gumprecht olive branch

Friday 21 March, 2008 12:00am

MARINERS coach Lawrie McKinna has not closed the door on a new contract for Andre Gumprecht despite the popular midfielder expressing his doubts over securing a new deal with the club.

Gumprecht, who has been away in Canberra this week completing a coaching course, feels out of favour at the club after he was given few opportunities in the starting team in the 2007-08 season.

He started only eight matches this season and was shattered to be left on the bench for the grand final when Greg Owens was instead selected to replace the injured Tom Pondeljak in the starting side.

"As far as I'm concerned it's not about playing ability for some reason the coach thinks I'm a problem player," Gumprecht, 33, said.

"'I've never had a falling out with anyone and I'd love to stay because I believe I still have a lot to offer the club. But for some reason it seems I'm not required."

McKinna said the players that were selected ahead of Gumprecht during the season won the club its first premiership.

"There is no argument," McKinna said.

"John Hutchinson and Mile Jeidnak came into the midfield this season and did a great job."

McKinna said he would sit down and talk with Gumprecht when he returned from Canberra and said the departure of Tom Pondeljak to Melbourne may have created another opportunity for Gumprecht.

The club has also been talking to fellow Mariners veterans Damien Brown and Andrew Clark this week. Although Brown, 33, was only selected to start in seven games this season he may still be offered a new contract for next season and has been negotiating with the club.

"There is definitely something in the pipeline but there is nothing on the table yet that I can say yes or no to," Brown said. McKinna will also talk to Clark who he is keen to retain in both a fitness coach and playing capacity.

what do peeps think?

i think mckinna's got a point, we did win the league, but at the same time he's showing a pragmatic side that i think is important for a football club.

Interesting, I thought it was a done deal that Andre would be leaving, and going to Roar?

Maybe all the comment here about Andre leaving, and the way he can come onto the field and fire in crosses pretty much straight away and get the team fired up, is enough to have the 'powers that be' think he's of some value to the Mariners?

I love grumpy to stay he brings that something special...............hard to define................its his presence is powerful.......as Phill Gould once said everyside needs a player thats got a little mongul in them .....also a nice guy.

Brown ...........cough cough, noway, Clarky must keep, may not be top draw but he gives everything +, when needed at the end he can hold his own.

How about we try and sign Stephane Baga from Chonburi FC!

The Thai league is semi-professional and he wouldnt be on more than 100000-200000. Foreign players bring intrigue and a sense of excitement with them.

...

As for Brown, I think its safe to say that the playing level of the A-League surpassed him in Season 2. A great bloke, but he looked way out of his depth against Melbourne at home this year.

I agree that we must keep Clarky, but as for Andre I'm indifferent. He is a crowd favourite and all, hell I'll even admit to getting excited when I see that he's about to be subbed onto the field, but he's also nearing his mid-30's and will only become even more injury prone, ontop of the fact that Lawrie just doesnt like him. Unless he signs for less than 70000, I dont think he is worth it.

McMaster was absolute garbage. If he played u/16's for England, they have no players and no idea. Which they don't  ;D

Trevor Brooking knows they can't play Football and so does the rest of the world. Why do the English lthink they can? Sorry, I know I'm off topic, but couldn't resist having a go at the poms.

If you had read about McMaster's story you wouldn't be bagging this aspect of his career.

As I understand it, McMaster was invited to train with a Scottish youth team in camp, and had a  Leeds rep go up to Scotland and basically tell him that if they were paying for his 'development' as a youth player, he will play for England and no one else. He HAD to leave the camp, as a  result.

McMaster could have qualified for Scotland, England or Australia national representation under 'grandfather' rules and birthright. At the time this was happening, Australia's administration was a basket case.

His story is one of the many reasons WHY Australia and the FFA should be developing a youth league and keep up the interest in our younger players. If they go overseas, this sort of politicking can happen and leave the player in no mans land.

Last I heard, someone told me McMaster was turning out for Umina Firsts team. I suppose the only way to find out if that is true is to go see a match and see if he's playing for them.

Maybe Gump's point would be we didn't win the Grand Final

Gumps contract in my opinon needs to be renewed because he is electrifying when he comes of the bench and he lifts the whole team. i remeber a game this season where we were down a goal and he came of the bench and even though we didn't win he brought the whole team up and at least had attempts at trying to equalise

No Dwight for us!  442

Dwight's Not Alright For Mariners

EXCLUSIVE: Dwight Yorkes hopes of joining the Central Coast Mariners are dead in the water with the club confirming that he does not fit its direction.
The former Sydney FC marquee has made no secret of his desire to return to Australia but the Mariners executive chairman today confirmed that the player wont be heading for Gosford.

Finance and length of contract are thought to be factors but Lyall Gorman insists the discussions regarding Yorke never really advanced beyond the tentative stage anyway.

Gorman told au.fourfourtwo.com: We are not going there with regards to that. As I said at the time, reports that it was all but a done deal were way off the mark. There were no detailed discussions.

Dwight Yorke is a fine footballer but we are looking at a particular direction at this club, player-wise and financially. Its beyond our scope.

Yorkes hopes of an east coast base look in tatters now.

It is clear there is no room for him at Sydney FC, the Mariners will not be taking him and the Gold Coast Galaxys failure to gain A-League admission has closed another door in his face. It's also unlikely Newcastle Jets would be willing to splash out on him.

Yorke is thought to want a two or three year deal at a new club with the chance to get his foot on the first rung of the coaching ladder.

Having lost John Aloisi to Sydney FC, an out and out goalscorer is thought to be top of the priority list for the Mariners with the club continuing to track a number of targets.

One thing Gorman has made abundantly clear is that the Mariners will not be rushed into adding bodies to the squad.

He said: We have a very astute coaching staff here and we will do what we feel is best for the club. The Dwight Yorke situation was part of our studying the market, getting a feel for the market and exploring what is out there.

As for players already at the club Gorman said the club was awaiting the latest medical reports on Nik Mrdja before resolving his future.
