Central Coast announce football partnership with Everton

I'll get excited when I see some results. What is positive is the statement of faith in the long term future of the club, and the stated intent to be a developing club.

We'll never be a buying club; anyone who thinks we'll have Leighton Baines pop over on a guest stint is dreaming, but if we get to have some talent come over here and we send some talent over there, but what I'm more interesting in to be honest with you is learning about their training programs, learning about their scouting programs, learning about their data analysis and match analysis.

Pre-season trips to their academy to learn from their training programs would be pretty great too.

In a salary capped league, expertise is something that can earn you an advantage that costs you very little. Smarts don't come with a spending limit.

Used well, we can get to a spot where we're buying better players for less and getting more out of them than others who don't have access to or the investment in the same smarts.

Whether or not anything useful comes of this announcement... well, only time will tell. What I do like about this announcement is that it gives me a sense of pride. The fact that a footballing giant like Everton actually gives a toss about a little club like us tells me that maybe we have something special going on here. Good start by Storrie. His real challenge will be on the local front though. The NS issue remains unresolved.

The Everton announcement is positive, but the reality is that it has quite a soft impact on the day-to-day running of the club. No money down, no money earned... just good will and a potential pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. We are a long way off realising the benefits of that though. Five games in NS next season will have more of an impact on this club than any link with the Toffees.

I look forward to Mr Storrie's next move.

Another great benefit of this is that i'm sure it will increase our footprint around the world. I'm sure there are thousands of Everton fans looking at their club website wondering who the **** are the Central Coast Mariners. Now they will know and have a bit of an affinity with our little club. As others have pointed out, nothing to lose but possibly much to gain.

Certainly no rumour: http://www.evertonfc.com/news/2015/01/23/everton-establishes-association-with-central-coast-mariners

If it had been a lesser club in a lower division I'd be less inclined to be excited. But this certainly enhances our reputation as a club for up-and-coming players to join. There are not too many direct pathways to/from the elite Premier League clubs.

This looks like Everton very much intend to make the association work for both sides. Very encouraging!

"Each season Everton will identify players from the Under-21 development squad whom Development Co-ordinator Royle, along with manager Roberto Martinez, believe will benefit from the experience of a season of first-team football on loan with the Mariners.

The A-League has grown significantly since its formation 10 years ago and, as it develops, the association will enhance the Mariners’ profile and help in its ongoing aspiration to be an attractive club for young players to join and fully develop their talent.

Everton will not only be able to assist the Mariners with the progression of their young players on the Central Coast but, with the strength of the A-League improving each year, the opportunity to work with talented young Australian players directly may be enhanced.

The School of Science boasts an Under-21 Academy and Development programme which is renowned as one of the most successful in England and this association will include visits by both clubs to view coaching and training methods with mutually beneficial potential.

Martinez said: “This is a very exciting initiative and relationship and we look forward very much to exploring and implementing the plans we have to make maximum advantage out of this association."

Better too try than not and as mentioned doesn't cost us financially or clubs soul.

Under 21 team we could be looking at lunogo or armini type players. No guarantee we getting the best players in squad but generally under 21 players for premier league clubs are pretty good. You never know could be some future England stars that come out here and in a few years we are going wow I remember him at CCM just like Jedi.

Hey Everton want another Tim Cahill you could try sainsbury, Ryan or armini. To bad the winow is closed

I don't see any benefit in the Mariners developing the careers of Everton's U21 players (who may not, BTW, be English); there is no money in it for the club. Our responsibility, and future revenue, lies in the development of young Australian talent.

You don't see the benefit of getting U21 players on the up in a top-half EPL club coming to us? You'd expect the players to be at least of the standard of the best young players here. Think about Oli Bozanic - he was in the U21s at a much smaller club and captain of our Olyroos.

If Everton's willing to send them to us, they'll want to see our training and development structures are up to scratch to ensure that the players they send are getting a worthwhile season.

The development of the training and development structures will be beneficial in itself.

Performance could be helpful...

Heaps of loan spells are mutually beneficial.
This is an area the A-league needs to improve on...

Troisi didn't financially aid Melbourne Victory. But he played brilliantly for them.

Zullo was good for Reds last season.

Nagai did alright in Perth until his injury...

And we have already attempted to dabble in the loan market with deals for mane and vernes.

They haven't financially benefited us...

ahem, and don't forget 'this association will include visits by both clubs to view coaching and
training methods with mutually beneficial potential'
this is wins for us with no cost. combined with a look in for our youth (thinking Ibini might have stayed had he thought there were direct ties to everton) and bonus use of their quality players... for free.
worst case scenario it's no loss - but to me this looks likely like a major win

They will more then probably be visa players that just happen to be young instead of over the hill and unwanted at there clubs.

If it works well they might send better squad players as the partnership matures or if a club legend gets to the end of his career he just might be pushed to CCM instead of New York red bulls.

Better to be in it to win it and fail trying than getting in useless foreigners from some freezing euro clubs that don't work out or Asian flops who roll on grass more than kicking a ball. At least they will be tough and energetic with potential. Wether they get to play two weeks in a row is a different matter

Young and keen to impress because they are chasing a career at Everton.

I'd love to watch a young Rooney in yellow for a season.

Thanks for your help, but no matter what I do, I always end up at the subsciption page.

I'm in Qld at the moment with my work laptop. I'm not the administrator of this computer and I think it's pretty tightly nailed down, so I can't change things like cookies etc. ANYWAY.... if there is anything of interest in the article, could someone enlighten me please... otherwise, it's cool.

I keep hitting a paywall too.
"FAMOUS English clubs Liverpool and Everton have moved their celebrated Merseyside rivalry to Australia.

Wonder what it means?
