@Shaun Mielekamp does the club know when finals will be played yet? Appreciate you might not be able to share dates but the APL has been very quiet on the subject. I think of teams playing on Saturday and wonder if they’ll know if they need to back up potentially as soon as Wednesday?
Can’t do wonders for arranging promotion of the event should we be able to host.

ACL bookending the season is obviously a big issue.

The dates are out:
  • Elimination finals to be played 11-13 June
  • Semi finals to be played 18-19 June
  • GF on 26 June
Tickets for the elims and Sydney's semi on the 19th go on sale to members next Monday, with a general sale the following day.

“The matches were scheduled to be played in Uzbekistan starting on June 26, which has been announced as the date for this season's A-League grand final.” - FTBL
I think the writer has that wrong. The matches for various teams were scheduled up to a week earlier.

Are you in a position to be able to comment on the sale or non sale of the club
Well yes I think technically its my position as CEO to make the comment on the sale or non sale of the club ;).
But to be honest there has not been any substantial movement on the sale of the club at this time. As there has been throughout the last 12 months plenty of conversations there is nothing to update anyone on as yet.
Everything is focussed on the finals right now.

This year is the first year of the Ten / Paramount deal and first the clubs are in charge from the get go, since the club led civil war to get control ... one of the leaders in that pack was MC ...

This is quite an important year in terms of Footballs recovery in ratings, media and crowds etc... Especially in making the Ten / Paramount deal successful...

MC also said I can recall if the clubs get control of the league he will invest more.

Can you give us some indication on the clubs budget i.e. are we going to spend the least we can or are we planning to spend salary cap plus a little....

I feel not counting last season, our performance kinda dragged the league down a bit... whereas last year we lifted the league...

Look forward to where you think we are in terms of budgets especially compared to previous years...

Shaun,
With some teams doing a total rebuild of their playing roster (ie. WSW and MV) the likelihood of those teams exceeding the cap comes into question.
This is especially so with WSW, considering the playing roster last season and the upgrade so far this season.

Just a few questions that most A League fans are talking about that you may be able to clarify for us:-
1) Is there a salary cap this coming season?
If so,what is the salary cap and what are the rules of it.?

2) Is the salary cap policed?
If so, is it an independent body who polices` it?
If so,who are on this independent body.
If so what powers does it have, and what penalties are there for breaches.
If not, why not?

3) With Newcastle being financed by 3 other clubs do they still have voting rights within the APL?
If so,who directs them which way to vote?

Thanks in advance.

Salary cap for the up coming season had been incrased by a bit over 10% - its a little tricky as last season was covid affected.
The rules for the salary cap would be bigger than all the commentary on this forum combined. But the basic principle is that there is a basic cap for the majority of the playing squad with a minimum of 18 players that need to be applied to the salary cap. Then outside of the cap there are 2 marquee players and one designated player (slight technical diiference but means 3 players you can spend how you like). Then there are a heap of salary cap concessions such as home grown players, loyalty players, mature age rookies all who can have a % of their salary outside the cap. Finally there are scholarship players that clubs can now have up to 16 players on contract that sits outside the salary cap as well.

The APL has an internal resource to manage the salary cap compliance and this is audited by independant auditors. I'm not sure who the external auditors are.

Penalties for breaches are primarily fines unless systematic compliance issues are found which can result in any number of sanctions, primarily points deductions and specific compliance orders than can be placed on the club from the league.

Whilst Newcastle is being owned by Chairman of other clubs the structure is that they have an Executive Chairman in place who is independant - I am unsure of what that means for the voting structure of APFCA but from what I've seen so far there has been very little to vote on as the majority is in general agreement across the Chairman to date. Any votes the Chairman have in regards to the the congress is a collective anyway so Newcastle structure doesnt have an impact here that I can see.

I hope this answers some questions for you?

Thanks for the update Shaun but doesn't answer what is the actual cap and is their a minimum spend (85 %) and if there is, is that what you are operating on.

Thanks Shaun, I`m surprised the cap isn`t run independently as so many fans feel that over the years breaches have been made...
