I believe if he stayed at the Mariners for just another year he would of then moved on to 'first team' football at any overseas club pretty much from the get go, instead of stagnating his career on the bench for the last 2 years.

Playing week in week out in the A-League would've sharpened his game technically and physically than Dortmund's 21's.

Boy could we have used his attacking skills in the midfield last season. ;)

Celtic boss Ronny Deila has heaped praise on Socceroo Tom Rogic after he made a positive return in his maiden first-team appearance in more than 18 months.

Rogic started and played an hour of Celtic’s 2-0 pre-season friendly win over Dutch club Den Bosch overnight.

The 22-year-old had a first-half shot hit the side netting, while he came closest in the second 45 with a header over the crossbar. He was impressive around the ground, particularly with his craft in midfield.

It was the Australian’s first senior appearance for the Hoops since coming off the bench in an UEFA Champions League encounter against AC Milan in late November 2013.

After returning to fitness late last season and sitting on the first-team bench twice, Rogic has worked hard in pre-season and is beginning to show signs he may make a major impact in 2015-16.

“He's a great player and a great person,” Deila said after the game.

“He works really hard and has been very unlucky with injuries in the last year.

“Now we have control over his body and you can see what kind of player he is.

“There's a reason why he got brought to Celtic and he's very hungry to show what is in him.

“Today he played excellent and you can see he's so good at scanning and getting his touch forward.

“He looked very quick today as well and his footwork is getting better every day.

“He's going to improve with more training.”

Rogic’s last competitive club appearance was when he was on loan at Melbourne Victory in April 2014, before succumbing to an ankle injury.

He has battled ankle and groin injuries since then, forcing him out of 2014 World Cup and 2015 Asian Cup calculations.

Celtic begin their 2015-16 campaign with an UEFA Champions League qualifier against Icelandic champions UMF Stjarnan in less than a fortnight.

The Hoops commence their SPL season at home to Ross County on August 1.

Mustafa Amini made his first competitive appearance for Randers on Thursday, helping the Danish club to avoid an upset away from home in the first round of UEFA Europa League qualifying.

The former Central Coast Mariners prodigy, who left Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season, played the full game of the first leg away to minnows Sant Julia of Andorra.

The 22-year-old supplied the corner that led to the only goal as Randers emerged with a 1-0 victory, despite finishing the game with nine men.

Amini operated on the right of midfield in a 4-4-2 formation and was denied a good scoring opportunity early in the match when he was played in by team-mate Nicolai Brock-Madsen, only for a last-ditch challenge to snuff out the danger.

"He has sent in some good crosses from corners and when he has the ball, things happen," Henrik Axel Buchter, a journalist for Randers Amtsavis, said of the Australian's performance. "He looks exciting.

"The few things we have seen from Musti in open play have been exciting."

Amini's Australian team-mate Jack Duncan, who has joined Randers from Perth Glory, was an unused substitute.

Viktor Lundberg was shown his marching orders as early as the 17th minute after an incident involving an opponent who threw himself to the floor, with the referee apparently deeming Randers' Swedish forward to be guilty of a head butt.

Jeppe Tverskov followed Lundberg in making an early exit in the 81st minute when he was shown a second yellow card.

Elsewhere, Socceroos defender Tomislav Mrcela was also involved in Europa League action overnight with his Lokomotiva Zagreb outfit securing a hard-fought win away from home.

The Croatian club trailed 1-0 at the break against Airbus UK Broughton of Wales but surged home after the break to come away with a 3-1 win.

Mrcela, who was called into his first Socceroos squad for last month’s World Cup qualifier against Kyrgyzstan, played a full match for Lokomotiva.

In friendly action, winger Ben Halloran played 45 minutes for his new club FC Heidenheim, scoring once in their 17-0 thrashing of SV Heldenfingen.

I can't feel more sorry for the young fella. Chin up Bernie, we're thinking of you, and we have no doubt that you have the internal strength to recover from this and get on with showing the football world the skills that we on the Central Coast know you have.
