Interesting thoughts.
I'll play Devil's Advocate and offer the following:,
Has Kaltak lost form because A: The heavy burden of Captaincy?
Or
B: He's feeling jaded because he had the captaincy taken from him?
Or, c, he hasn't lost form, he's just had this perception of the brick wall and there's been a heavy amount of rose coloured glasses.
He didn't do anything last week different to week 1, or 3, or 6, or Aus Cup.
And it's not the armband distracting him, because he was making the same mistakes before, though it's a fair thought- we have seen player's performances drop off when given that additional role.
Somebody here hypothesised that he might be complacent. Hugely successful here, made his national team, got this media nickname- for some, there's no more motivation to improve, especially when everyone is telling you that you're perfect.
Because he's in the wrong position.
It's interesting, however, hearing that he's seen directing the line. I wonder if that's a good thing, or is he issuing the wrong instructions?
I guess we'll know if nothing improves under Sains. Though loss of motivation is likely to hurt us now too, so probably can't compare.
It's good that we stuck to the captaincy plan though. And a change is probably a good thing. Hopefully the plan has always been made clear.
Paull is improving this season. I think continuing to develop him might be smart rather than keeping Kaltak as untouchable with an automatic start.
.fighting for his position could be the kick up the bum he needs.
Or, if his head isn't in the game, could take the pressure off.
