ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Do the FFA conspire?

No, of course not. They don't have too do they?

Weak, inept officials will do the right thing regardless.

Ben Williams to ref us in a semi or GF anyone?

What was it Sir Humphrey said? Something about not bribing judges but making sure you select a judge who will give you the result you want anyway?

Personally, I think this is the year we most look and feel like a GF team this year than at any other point. In years gone past we, at varying times, haven't looked as much like a team that can solidly control a match as the various GF winners (winning games isn't necessarily enough; there's a different psychology to a GF) - and we typically haven't done well psychologically in grand finals. Sydney, Newcastle, we played like crap, never really looked like winning those. We can complain about the missed handball in the Newcastle match all we like, but a PK is far from guaranteed, so at best that puts us to a draw with a lot of work to do. Brissy we played great, but we struggled under pressure at the end and we got screwed over by the rugby tackle in the corner. And let's not even try to blame the referees for those times we choked so badly in the finals series that we didn't even make it to the GF...

Dibo's right though - every single team complains that they're far harder done by in terms of refereeing than any other team. We've lost matches on bad decisions, sure, but we've also won them. Sure, we've had players incorrectly sent off - but we've also had plenty of players stay on the park when they shouldn't have. Heck, Hutcho spends so much of each game chasing the referee up and down the park that it's amazing he gets to finish any match. It's part of the joy of following any sports team really, but conspiracy theories and martyr complexes get a little tiresome, if not embarrassing.

But, as we've seen, we're also had a few matches lately where we haven't really looked all that in control, yet managed to pull out a win. Hopefully that was a slump, but I believe it's all about psychology for us - which is also what's so terrifying. A bit like the Jets matches; too many times we were the better team going into it but they had the better mindset on the day, particularly in the earlier years.

Hutcho's mood seems to have a distinct correlation with our on-field performance - if he's playing the whinging hack role, we don't do so well. If he shuts up, stays out of the way and just does his job then we're calm and in control, to the extent that even conceding first doesn't really bother us.

I actually think we're in better shape to win a GF than we ever have been - but, like every other GF, which CCM team will turn up on the day? We have a lot of reasons to be scared of a GF, so our psychological preparation is going to be important, and difficult to manage.

Fark, it terrifies me, but I'll be buying those plane tickets as soon as we have a location (ie as soon as we find out that FFA are screwing us over again and putting us to neutral territory....)

. dibo, i'm not going to argue for or against those comments but could you clarify for the ill-informed (me):

. i haven't heard this brought up as an issue before ... are you suggesting intent decides the outcome? what does or doesn't make it off-side?

Intent from Bernie doesn't. The fact that he touched the ball does....

. does that actually make any difference? is the difference that a red 'could be' subject to further review?
It's a big difference - a 2nd yellow is 1 week. A straight red is just a 1 week minimum.

Somehow though, despite that nobody has ever thanked me when I've given them a 2nd yellow card on a borderline (or even really-should-be) red card :p

You mean against Perth last year, when the goal they scored which ended the match in a draw was offside?

This Mariners team look to be mentally strong, in the last year and a half I can't think of any matches where the team have been overawed by the occasion. And as I said earlier, nobody has outplayed us this season so far. I expect there to be much masturbation in the media about the Tards and Ange, but they have been unable to beat the Mariners in two outings so far, both away games for CCM and both times with a man down for much of the game (granted, the second time it was Arnie but not having your manager on the sideline is still a disadvantage). The only time we can be certain of playing them again, is on our home turf.

I would bet on WSW to beat that mob if they encounter one another in a finals match. I think the boys in red and black are the biggest threat to a Mariners double, but even then, at our best we are a level above them.

What would be nice to see is some other bloody team in our league, take some points off Victory.

wsw have ,don't panic .the origanal piont of this topic was a a shot at ange ,
before a bit of light heart conspricy theory digressed into personal insults.
ange has a tough draw ahead that should see him finish 3rd and line him up
for a semi against the drive by's.

Yes Dibo.

In the past...on occasion....definitely yes.

They even did it to Perth last year in the grand final. Are you trying to tell me that the ref was that biased and that awful all on his own?

The FFA haved sucked balls from day one.....however I have noticed some improvement this season....almost like they are actually trying to be fair and even handed.

Sorry, but I don't buy into this conspiracy stuff ... the referees are just plain awful, full stop.

i think this is pretty simple .despite insults or general derision by the thought police.
manipulation of referee’s is relatively simple .such as is the manipulation of people
in a work force. most notably the current obsession in work places of ."new age
management systems" that are just rehashes of past failed ideas.
should anybody object or fail to comply, then there on the outer.this has been driven by the insurance
companies and the countries productivity has plummeted as much on this as the high dollar cost.
so if ange complains about "your style of refereeing" you can expect to miss out on a semi final gig.
after all everyone here has complained about .the fox commentary team chortling angie virtues
it doesn't take alot to get a desired out come . it's just not that hard

I don't agree.

Refs make dud calls. It happens in every league, on every game day, every season. Why should ours be any different.
Dud calls do not make awful refs.
