I get splinters in the arse every time I see this debate go up, from sitting on the fence!
I can see both sides' argument.....I do know the history behind Mr. Celery's situation with the Breakers and the fact many ex Rowdies headed to the Mariners instead of the Jets, because of Con's ownership of the Jets.
Fair enough I say, if you have had a bad experience with Con, then by all means support someone else, or not support Football at all.
But the A-League has been going for 4 seasons now, the franchises were known nearly 5 years ago.
And I wonder how long it must be before folks give up the 'rage' against all and sundry who support the Jets, purely because of the previous past bad experience that had with the owner of the club?
While this forum has seen trolling outbursts from GoldJets, and few other Jets supporters having a go, their forum has also seen some mighty outbursts from our side too (Serious, Dibo and Celery are well known to the Squadron moderators).
We are not squeaky clean, and I cannot see how going on another club's supporters' forum and raising hell is going to make any forward progress in more civil exchanges between the two groups.
People like Brett, FFC Mariner & Marinermick have all socialised well with other supporter groups & enhanced the name of the Marinators by their goodwill in the name of Football.
While Mr. Celery previously did a great job with the Rowdies in supporting the Breakers that was a long time ago and when the Football scene was much much different.
I hate to say this, but sometimes I wonder whether agitators within our supporters' base is sometimes more a millstone around our necks than need be.
The Central Coast Mariners franchise was largely a 'greenfield' franchise, and no previous top flight Football team existed here or competed in the old NSL regime. Yet the Marinators found themselves having to be diplomatic in dealings with our closest neighbours from day 1?
LATE EDIT: Mr. Celery, while being the topic of this Thread, is certainly NOT the only one holding a candle from past loyalties. Ursus sees all things in a 'spirited' way and Sacko still hates the Bob Stand, even though Football has not been played at North Sydney Oval for how long? While these gentlemen contribute occasionally on this forum with alternative views to the current 'ultras, pro flares movement' : of this season, I find myself reading some of their comments wondering where the angle for their pet hate is placed within the context.
