The only reasons i can see Gumps going is if we want to sign 4 overseas players

Gumps traded for 4 (four) O'seas players!
What The?

I wasn't aware that crack smoking was a popular past-time on the coast.

"4" O'seas players, playing on Andres contract $$'s, divided by "4", would also have to be smoking crack if they accepted that sought of coin.  ::)

Hmmm 4 players from the 'nix, after all they are O'seas ;)

We have a youth Acadamy in place, why cant he go and coach there. He could turn out 10 little Gumpy's hehehehe what a thought. Gumpy with 10 little mini me's running around on a field. Thats going to be a hard image to shake really lol. But seriously Andre lives on the coast and i think given the option im sure his family and him would choose to stay here.

Gumps Appreciation Day....I LIKE IT.  :vhappy:... and methinks Gumps would be ideal for the Academy

Lets see Gumps ??? Owens ??? Gumps ??? Owens ???  Andre wins !!!! :vhappy: Send Owens packing and resign Gumps. Owens just hasn't measured up to the standard of our players. Yet he's getting game time over players far better than him . Andre is still a hard hitting attacking midfielder and has far more to offer the team than Owens. Maybe the Mariners can incorporate his soccerpro with the Acadamy to support younger players like most European clubs do. Anyway lets hope they can find a way to keep him here.

your kidding right? Owens is younger, faster and has improved all season, if anything he is too selfish and needs to pass more IMO.

I think he still has a role next season. You have to remember a starting spot in midfield this season is very competitive and it is hard to replace Jedi, Owens, Tommy and Hutch, not to mention Kwas as they have been playing so well. Just remember there was not spot for Tommy in the starting line up for the first third of the season and we all know how good he is.

I don't think he's ever fully recovered from V2 when he got pole axed at the Tards. The poor bugger hasn't been able to fully recapture his form since then. Although I do think if he was given game time he would.

He's got plenty left and not ready for the glue factory yet.

The club have had a happy knack of letting players go at the right time (Spencer,Sully etc) so if they decide that times up, I will (sadly) accept it.

Rumour is Bling BTW

well owens REALLY proved what he's worth in last nights game. A six pack of VB and a small pizza. NO much !!!! Kwassy and Simons should have been sent out to replace him earlier. But i suppose Lawrie see's something in him to keep him on the field.

simons doesn't play that position, and i honestly can't think of anything kwas did last night. owens didn't do too bad, a few decent runs and passes and whatnot. one pretty nice defensive header too.

Both Matty and kwassy still put in a bigger effort than owens. young bradley can play well in that position. I know i'm being very hard on owens but his form has been shocking especially with players like Gumps, Damien and Bradley benched for him to play. Well lets hope he can improve before the end for the season, when we need top players on the field who can carry their own weight and not leave it to the rest of the team to make up his short-falls.
So long as its for the benifit of "TheMighty Yellow and Navy" thats all that counts.

I still wonder if some of you watch the same game as me. ::)
Owens is getting better and more involved every game. Yesterday was our best midfield performance all season and he was part of it. Watch what was happening off the ball in attack and you may have seen him (Hutchi as well) in brilliant scoring positions when many chances were missed.

Back to the main theme. I agree with DJ (not unusual) and Bear (unusual) on this one, I would hate to see him go, but he really is now a squad player.

It is a credit to the feeling generated by this team that there will always be upset when it is time for players to move on. It gutted me to see Stewie Petrie and Sully go last year. Two players I have supported since the Northern Spirit days. Great guys, great club men, could have stayed as squad players, but time catches up with all of us.

Isn't that true Striker?

Yeah i gotta say its Owens for me too. Gumpy is a great player and a hero but at the moment he is wonderful off the bench. That does not mean he can start games and do the whole 90. I want him to stay with the club for sure but in a coaching role with the academy. Look what Crawley has done with Danny and think what he could do for our midfielder's. If you look at our team in v1 we had the oldest team and when we signed up Vidmar in v2 it got even worse. Experience is a huge thing on the park but midfield is not the place. We could have the youngest and most fit team in the league next year is our off season goes well.

And I agree with you 100% on these comments Ursus, well said. Sums up how I feel about Gumps too. Lovely guy, great ambassador for the sport, terrific competitor.

Owens is a great asset for us, a tireless workhorse who will begin to get the goals his all round play deserves (eventually).

Im with Ursus, Owens has improved with every game.
I think he adds the long range option as well as weve seen a little of that provides another option which Hutch can bring into the game at will.
I love Gumps but when he comes on for 20 or so minutes what does he REALLY do that no other squad member has to offer?

Matthew Hall from the Sun Herald:
'A-League transfer tittle-tattle: Perth Glory captain and midfielder Simon Colosimo and Central Coast Mariners midfielder Andre Gumprecht to Sydney'... Looks like it's true.
