That is the Club's financial model. Bring in young players, identify and buy in overlooked players for a song, develop those that have the ability and sell them on. Eventually, if done successfully, you can have that rarest of items, a self funding football club.

I do not understand the doom and gloom and talk of conspiracy. The model has been clear for a long time now and is showing results. We have a championship, and young players queuing up for a trial here.
We have coped with the biggest loss of quality players in years, successfully coped with the loss of playing staff, have just had a great win in front of one of our biggest regular season home crowds and are playing competitive exciting football.

I think that’s unfair. I understand that’s the clubs “financial model”, however, to be successful, it also depends on quality players being brought in to plug the gaps. Monty did well with raw diamonds, absolutely , but in January we need players who can hit the ground running and keep momentum going.. we don’t have the luxury of time to get them brushed up.

We tried running the Club on zero investment.. do you want to be back there?

Won the championship, yes. Literally 80% of that team and staff are now gone. Queuing up for spots in the Academy also had a lot to do with Monty and Serg and the Clubs success.

All I ever ask is that we be competitive. I will take a 6th place and be thankful.

Definitely no death knells right now.. just mild trepidation. Easily quelled with a successful, proactive January.

After the last 3 games I believe Nizzy, Torres, Farrell, Ballard & Kaltak are the key to our success.

Loosing Tulio will only kill us if we rely on him as Adelaide relied on Irunkunda as kind of a mentality confidence player. As in unconsciously believing we need him to play well.

Move Dipizio straight into this new setup get a couple of draws and wins and then we have a massive problem come end of year when contracts are up. lol.

We will not buy quality players in January.

The Club may bring in some possibles, raw diamonds, lost souls, or could have beens for peanuts and attempt to turn them into quality players, but cannot afford to spend the money on established quality.

MJ will rely on further improvements from Torres and Kuol with development and growing experience from Di Pizio to fill the gap.

There is still lots of room for development and improvement in the current squad.

Rewatching the mini & Hall incident (not in the mini match) and the only negative is Hall being involved in both goals and needlessly almost getting a red. That must have been so close to checking on the screen and Perth had every right to be pissed about it. Can only imagine the reaction here if it were Paull.

Otherwise a great night out for the squad.

Long may it continue. Kids getting a chance and getting a move overseas is only a good thing for the club. It’s sad but I love it all the same.
Not saying it’s a bad thing. We are a selling club in a selling league.

From what I have sent Tapp has the potential to be up there with the best midfielders we have had. (Key word is potential).

I just hope we can keep the movement out and unearthing of new gems to an orderly procession and not half a team out the door at once. ??‍♂

This is well pointed out, and our actual business model (which has been continuously well laid out by the club). Everyone we have sold has started here in those categories. Apart from Vuka, who have we signed in the last few years who wasn’t a possible, raw diamond, lost soul or could have been.

That is the part of the puzzle that many seem to struggle with…. We buy players cheap, sell high, and reinvest the bulk of our fees into keeping the club afloat. Rinse and repeat.

Selling $1mill of players doesn’t mean we spend $1mill replacing them, it means we spend the $300k odd to replace them that they cost in the first place. The balance is what keeps us alive.

This is 100% spot on. I’m not suggesting we spend 1 mil on replacements. That’s not viable or sustainable. However there needs to be some low priced diamonds who are going to polish up quickly. The balance is also about keeping fans happy, along with keeping the club afloat and in both cases that means maintaining some level of success.

I’ve had exactly this vibe for a while and hope to be wrong but as above.. I think we are in trouble.

Very happy the gloss and fanfare tonight will hide the cracks for a little while longer, the team and the fans deserved that end of year celebration.

January will be telling though.
Agree and I feel a sense of betrayal.

Club needs to tap into those fans who came last night and encourage them to become members-offer discounts perhaps while they are on a high from last night [and before any change in fortune]. There must be a way via email or text mobile nos used to get tickets to the NYE game.

Trouble is a shit schedule. If we had all Saturday night games, you probs see 8-10k weekly. Maybe more.
