Clark is a better defender than Porter but is also positionally suspect and doesn't close down quickly enough and he is afraid to push forward...Porter's crossing and willingness to attack gets him the RB spot for mine.

Osman has looked way off the pace this year so to put him at RB would be taking him on trust?

Probably our best back four (when fit)

Wilko  Boogs  Bojic  Heff....however we need a quality centre back with pace to partner Boogs in the middle and Wilko goes to RB.  Bojic will push for a starting spot at either RB or LB if Heff or Wilko are not in form (if we sign a decent centre back)

Hutcho doesn't deserve a starting spot atm. Apparently Gumps stood out like a beacon in the youth game.

I agree that Hutch should prob be dropped however we are in good form at the moment, coming off a 3-0 win, so I doubt Lawrie is likely to make any changes to the starting 11.

Interesting ........Hmmmmmmmm........Caceres is a better player today than Tommy P is today.....  hopefully Caceres has not hit his peak yet and their is more to come .... but both at their best it's Tommy by a country mile ....

But we got by a long way the better deal Tommy is still struggling to keep fit enought to stay on the park.

What will be good to see is when Elrich is back with Jedi in the center and Heff coming in from the back by Fark we are going to have some attacking options .......

Agreed. We paid Tommy P good money and he was not half the player he was for Perth Glory in the NSL. He did great and provided glimpses of the player he was. One of my favourite Foundation playets

I too like this 433 formation but when everyone is fully fit and playing in their prefered positions Iwould like to see pedj at RB. That was the position that he was brought in to fill to for me for the rest of the season (assuming Heff isn't far away) I like...

                          Danny

Bojic          Wilko            Boogs            Heff

                Gumps            Mile

                        Caseras

        Nik            Macca          Simon

Bench: Sasho,  Porter,  Hutch,  Redders

I really like this team, and replace gumps with Elrich when he is fit and push gumps to the bench.

If Adrian can develop the more 'intelligent' parts of Tommy's game, ie vision and controlling the tempo/direction of play, he can be a great number 10. His dribbling and close control since he was given the space to do his thing by our formation switch has been extremely refreshing and indeed, it is the variation in our strategy.

From the SMH this morning:

"The Mariner with two sets of fans
November 21, 2008

Adrian Caceres returns tonight to his former club Melbourne, writes Sebastian Hassett.

For a player who spent nearly half of his two years at Melbourne Victory picking splinters from his backside on the substitutes' bench, Adrian Caceres left one hell of an impression.

Dazzled by his dancing feet, incisive passing and willingness to take on opponents with a blistering turn of pace, Melbourne fans would chant his name relentlessly when coach Ernie Merrick confined Caceres to the pine for much of the past two seasons. As frustrated as his legions of fans, Caceres wanted nothing more than a piece of the action. So wound up when he entered the fray, his kamikaze running frequently broke open matches against tiring opposition, delighting the Northern Terrace.

But while it was easy to see why the fans loved him, it was hard to understand why he was so frequently overlooked. And with the 2007-08 season drawing to a close, Caceres decided he'd had enough of being the token super sub. He wanted to show the football public what he could do over a whole match, over a whole season. And Central Coast manager Lawrie McKinna also wanted to see it.

"Every time I go out on the pitch for the Mariners, I want to show the whole country what I can do, not just Ernie Merrick," Caceres said. "My dream is still, one day, to play for Australia.

"Even just to make it into a training camp. But it wasn't going to happen while I was sitting on the bench. I'm now getting some game time, some recognition and it's great. It's exactly what I wanted."

But when Caceres returns to Melbourne in the Mariners' colours for their top-of-the-table clash tonight, the first thing he'll do is run straight to the home fans to acknowledge them - and he hopes they'll return the favour.

"I'd love it if they did. I'll understand if they don't, because they support their team so passionately, but I'll have good memories of them regardless," he said. "To play in front of them is one of my fondest memories in Australia.

"They showed me a lot of love and helped me through the hard times, to be honest. A lot of times I wasn't happy and a bit down because I wasn't playing, but they would still chant my name and be egging me on.

"Honestly, if it wasn't for them, it would have been really hard to come back, so I've got a lot to thank them for and I respect them immensely."

The fans' unshakeable belief in his ability has finally come to fruition on a consistent basis, albeit with a different club in a different state. Indeed, Melbourne wanted to keep the Buenos Aires-born midfielder, offering him a two-year deal. History shows it was rejected, but Caceres would like to put it on the record that dollar signs hardly decided the move.

"If truth is told, Melbourne offered me more money than the Mariners. But it was never about that for me. Lawrie told me he wanted to give lots of game time and to start me, which is exactly what I was after," he said. "I loved everything about Melbourne and to make the move was really hard, but there was just that one thing that was the problem. Central Coast knew it wasn't about money - they said they could offer more - but I made it clear it had nothing to do with that."

Last week, against Adelaide United, Caceres capped his good form by rattling home a sweetly struck drive from distance for his second goal of the year, and he's hoping there's more to come.

"It was great to score and to get a little bit of a reward for the hard work I've been doing, but obviously to get the win was more important, especially against a top-two side," he said. "Now that's done and we're in the top two, so we have to go on with the job."

Sounds like he's a great bloke as well as a great player!

id prefer owens for gumps and elrich on bench (both when fit)

Sorry cannot agree Elrich was on the bench in Nov 2005 ...... and the next to be chosen in 2006 if someone pulled out.

He is a real class player recovering from some bad injuries ....... when fit and going ..... what with Porter behind we will cause some headaches .......my only concern is in defence
