ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

ACL spots cut

it probably is fair in truth but is such a good carrot for clubs that it is a shame to lose the extra spot

Competing in the ACL is essential for the development of the HAL but the places must be earned.
1.5 places is fair considering the performance so far.

Development = benchmarking our standard

Football Federation Australia (FFA) can confirm that the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Executive Committee (EXCO) meeting in Kuala Lumpur today allocated to Australia one (1) automatic position and one (1) qualifying position for the 2013 AFC Champions League (ACL) competition. FFA is yet to receive details of the qualification process.

The 2013 allocation compares to previous years where there were two automatic spots, plus an additional qualifying spot in 2012.

Head of the Hyundai A-League, Damien de Bohun stated that the FFA was disappointed at the outcome and would be looking to restore the previous ACL allocation in the future.

“It’s important for us to maintain a strong presence in the ACL through the Central Coast Mariners’ direct participation and the strong prospect of Brisbane Roar also qualifying.

“Our real focus and that of our Clubs this year is the Hyundai A-League, the consolidation of the 10 team competition and continuing to build on the exciting start to this season.”

whats fair about it. china get 4 .so the duds we flogged 5 -1 last year will get a spot
and adelaide miss out because their too good for the asians?
this has nothing to do with performance and everything to do with brown paper bags under the table.

just queitly, this also means 1st past the post is way more important than the toilet seat. as it stands.

Perth misses out, Roar has to play for their spot

Apparently Qatar gets 4 spots with a 12 team comp and a population of 300,000 less than that of Brisbane...
I thought it was fair til I started seeing comparisons like these

1.5 might be fair.

But compared with 4 for qatar it isnt.
There is also barely any room for up and coming nations to even attempt to qualify for the tornament

There's some justice in this. The 2012 grand final was a disgusting spectacle. I've never come closer to turning my back on the game. I'd rather reive our first ACL campaign in slow mo than even remember that fiasco. Sadly the victims will not be the cheat Berisha, the fool Gillet, nor the preening pundits who pronounced it a penalty without so much as looking at the laws of the game.
The rules of the ACL are pretty straightforward: you have a league, ideally large and with promotion and relgation, and a separate cup comp.
This the world game: if you want to run it like the chook raffle AFL or gameshow NRL you don't get to play with the other kids.

+1

There's a bit of chatter around other forums that "this will have the Mariners' fans banging in about the Premiership (some even use the word 'minor') being more important than the Championship".

So... yeah!

Speaking of ACL, it's a huge final weekend ahead for the J-League with the 3rd spot up for grabs. Absolutely caning for my Reysol to win for the chance of an ACL, Reysol/CCM fixture here in Tokyo.

1 Sanfrecce Hiroshima 61
2 Vegalta Sendai 57
3 Sagan Tosu 53
---------------
4 Kashiwa Reysol 52
5 Urawa Reds 52
6 Nagoya Grampus 52
7 Yokohama F・Marinos 50

Kashima vs Kashiwa
Urawa vs Nagoya
Yokohama F・M vs Sagan Tosu

Atleast this proves our argument that premiership is more important than championship, echoed by our over arching FIFA section, grand final winner is a thugs dream

Still fuming about this. "fairness" is the very last thing it has anything to do with.

If you think the Qatari league, with the same population as Perth, and an average of 4,000 people a game to their pathetic league are worth four ACL spots your insane. They are only just in the process of setting up there first ever women's football competition now ffs. But they get the world cup... and 4 spots for their twelve team league. By the way a promotion relegation system is just one small component and only supposed to be worth 5 points from the AFC's 600 point total bullshit fest. Qatar may be able to spend big on bribes, but the participation, quality and overall infrastructure of football as a code in Australia DWARFS them to absurd proportions.

And China? Yes, they are a bigger league than us. Who has just jailed two former football chiefs, as well as referees, and national team players... for their huge match fixing scandals. No worries. They didn't even lose a single point for this due to some equally corrupt bullshit excuse given by the AFC. Sure they both "deserve" four spots...

Because crime, discrimination, player participation, football level and crowds numbers don't mean jack shit in the face of politics and money.

Oh come on mate, it's about the number of teams and promotion/relegation... really?

Thailand average 300 more people per game than the Qatari league. Have an 18 team comp vs Qatars 12. With a 16 team second division for promotion/relegation, vs Qatars 6 teams. But like us, Thailand get 1.5 spots to Qatars 4.

I'm telling you, it's totally corrupt bullshit.

We are League Champions, oh look Australia, your finals system means nothing.

Playoff in Thailand might be nice though......
