hooray for an early start

Total lunacy, have they learned nothing from this season in regard to crowds and grounds?
:headbutt:

What is going to happen when Rovers come in .. start in June? Get the bovril heated up.

In other news, it's believed the next A-League season will have it's earliest-ever start - the last weekend of July - after Football Federation Australia and the clubs agreed to a 30-week competition to accommodate new franchise Melbourne Heart.

agree totally

It's a massive move to dominate the other codes by starting the season on the crest of the world cup wave. It could work, schedule a few Melbourne Victory/Heart matches early at the bubble-dome and we could have enough momentum for huge crowds come summer.

That requires planning, and well thought out, targetted and massively funded  marketing, by FFA and clubs.  Chances of that? /100?

A 30 week comp with 33 rounds.
Is this right?
27 +3 (MH) +3 (bye).
Wonder how much a season ticket will cost this time round.
Might have to move some more games.....

Carle not really a marque though

Agree

When i heard that he could be coming i thought f**k how good a squad will that be if Van Dyk signs and a marquee is added.

Then they told me he would be marquee and i laughed. Has he got that much better since he left? Is this what a marquee signing is? Should be rejected by the FFA IMO, he is not a marquee.

Which is why the FFA should have bought a slice of world cup advertising on sbs

Well,  I guess they have to draw a line and stand toe to tole with other codes eventually. Hopefully the WC hype can help support this decision... otherwise...

This seasons early start date obviously proved to be a bit of a catastrophe - also missed the pre season cup for mine... was almost like a trailer for the film... crowd numbers weren't too important - but you knew it was football time a gain... Get to look at new players etc...

Carle for any A League club would be a tremendous signing.
BUT - marquee? Especially of all clubs fro cashed up SFC?
Yet by the same token, why on earth wold Carle come back here for a squad players wages?
Only way to get him into the side would be marquee - and unless yo can find someone with a big name - but of equal or greater ability at this stage of their career... Then you can see why they would be after him. Better Marqee than Aloisi and plays exciting crowd pleasing football.
Also as someone already said, PERFECT Corica replacement.

We would have enough space in the cap to accomodate much higher than average money for Carle if Kisel and Colosimo both leave, which is heavily rumoured.  A foreign marquee then would also leave us within the 3+1 rule (it appears McFlynn may finally take residency) if we were to be playing ACL next season.  I guess the question would be if you have Carle and the marquee really should be an AM, could you shoehorn them into the same team?  Obviously you'd try, but I think it would mean a return to 4-2-3-1 - though that would be an infinitely better formation than normal given you could have a front 4 of

Brosque--marquee--Carle
                SvD

With the likes of Bridge and Danning as backup

My preference is in the cap, even if it means the squad is a tad on the thin side (would probably be limited to 21 players at most and do that by bringing in a couple of youth).  I really can't see why we would even remotely consider Carle as a marquee when by all reports we have the money to send people of the caliber and contacts of Lavicka and Traktorvenko to their part of the world with seven figures to spend on Lavicka's first choice.

He has an option that is apparently in his favour for post-ACL.  Lord knows if thats for real, if its just to take the heat off the mid-season transfer thing.... who knows.

Maybe you know the answer to my question

our player Thomas Broich who joined Nrnberg at the beginning of the season had an offer from an A-League club. he decided to join Nrnberg though
Does anyone know which club wanted him?

Not sure be looking at his pedigree he could come to Gosford and play under Arnie no problem at all.

make him an offer :) pretty sure he would be keen on coming to Oz :)
he has no chance at all at Nrnberg atm and not so sure he stays next season in Bundesliga 2

Melbourne Heart sign Sydney FC's John Aloisi to two-year contract: reports
By staff writers
February 18, 2010 Melbourne Heart have signed Sydney FC striker John Aloisi to a two-year contract, according to SBS's The World Game.

It was reported that Aloisi and the Heart had agreed to terms for the 34-year-old to finish his A-League career at the new franchise, but neither party had officially declared the deal, which was believed to be worth $120,000 a season.

The veteran striker is enjoying a purple patch of form after an inconsistent 18 months, and is sure to feature prominently in Sydney's first semi-final leg against Melbourne Victory on Thursday night.

Alosi would become the second Sydney FC player to defect to the Heart - who will enter the A-League next season - after goalkeeper Clint Bolton inked a deal on Tuesday.

The World Game also reported that the Heart are set to announce the recruitment of Dutch midfielder Rutger Worm from Dutch first division side NEC Nijmegen.

Heart are saying they'll hold off on further talks with Aloisi until after he finishes his Sydney commitments, and that they're doing this with all players still in the finals! They didn't say "Except Bolton" though.

Okon punted from Fold Coast.

Another unemployed scummer to add to the pile.

If they think he is the reason their season imploded, they have bigger problems than I thought.

Still, a scummer on the dole is always good
