Wish it was Canada again. The only playoff I can remember against Concacaf was in '93 - we beat Canada in a shootout at the SFS with a long-haired Schwarzer the hero. It's Comnebol we've played off against multiple times in relatively recent times ('93, '01, '05).
He saved two penalties in a shootout then as well. The only playoff I can remember against Concacaf was in '93 - we beat Canada in a shootout at the SFS with a long-haired Schwarzer the hero. It's Comnebol we've played off against multiple times in relatively recent times ('93, '01, '05).

Socceroos, Australia v Syria: Confirmation of venue delayed for away leg of World Cup play-off

THE Socceroos still don’t have an answer on where the away leg of their World Cup play-off with Syria will be held after a late hitch, says Fox Sports football reporter Daniel Garb.
With the first leg of the AFC play-off to take place on October 5, it was reported on Monday night that either Jordan, Qatar or the United Arab Emirates will play hosts to the war-torn Syrian team, who backflipped on their initial desire to play in Malaysia.
Reports from overseas suggest Abu Dhabi is the frontrunner.
But Garb reports a “late hitch” has seen the official announcement stall, which delays FFA’s ability to arrange logistics before the crucial qualifier.
“Still no call on location for the Socceroos game in Syria,” Garb tweeted.
“Abu Dhabi was almost confirmed before [a] late hitch. [Three weeks] away, frustrating for FFA.
“Smacks of pure gamesmanship from the Syrians. These fixtures are logistical nightmares – [the] longer they wait harder they make it for the Socceroos.”
AAP reporter Vince Rugari claims Syria had preferred to play in Malaysia, but changed their mind late after Australia finished third in Group B.
Australia have confirmed the location of their home leg – on October 10 – with the match to be played at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium.
